A huge thank you to Katie H. for featuring my insights in her recent article, "A PR Expert’s Guide to Landing Brands on a Gift Guide," for Marketing Brew / Morning Brew--also featured in this morning's newsletter!
As the founder of Dreamday and co-founder of Quality Media, Powered by The Quality Edit®, I get to work both sides of the gift guide process—from our team pitching editors all year long at Dreamday and being on the receiving side curating gift guide recommendations for our audience at The Quality Edit. Seeing what really catches attention on both ends helps me understand what makes products (and pitches!) stand out.
Katie really nailed it, capturing the ins and outs of the gift guide pitching process and what brands need to do to stand out in this ever-competitive landscape.
As I shared with Katie, for Dreamday, pitching for gift guides is an ongoing, year-round process. From legacy publications like Oprah’s Favorite Things to digital-first platforms, our strategy includes getting products into editors' hands as early as possible, building authentic relationships, and aligning with the publication's audience and content style.
“Make sure that you make the editor’s job as easy as possible and help them understand that this is exactly where we see our brand fitting from a demographic perspective [and] here are things that you’ve worked on in the past that align with that… Serve it to them, ideally, on a silver platter as best as you can.”
