In this role, you’ll support office operations and financial record keeping, manage event logistics, and collaborate with leadership to improve systems and efficiency. Nearly 1,000 incarcerated firefighters are on the frontlines battling Southern California's record-breaking wildfires. 🔥🚒 Part of a long-standing volunteer program, these individuals are helping fight destructive fires, with some working "around the clock" to protect structures and slow the fire spread. While their wages are significantly lower than their civilian counterparts, the program offers opportunities for rehabilitation and skills training. However, the stigma attached to being an incarcerated firefighter often follows them after release, with many struggling to secure jobs in the civilian workforce. Did you know that in addition to the 1.6 million people incarcerated in federal and state prisons, there are over 600,000 individuals held in more than 3,000 local jails across the U.S.? Shockingly, over 70% of these people are being held pretrial, meaning they haven’t been convicted of a crime and are legally presumed innocent. One reason for this large unconvicted population is the money bail system, where the principle of “innocent until proven guilty” often only applies to those who can afford it.
