I’ve long struggled to fit into singular work labels — artist, academic, executive — and I know that many others have as well. It seems obvious to say that we’re a blend of skills and talents. But over time, we can lose touch with this natural synergy. We set aside creative tools in favor of practical ones, leading us to feel enervated because we’re not activating our whole self. It makes sense: 80% of neurons are used to control movement—especially in tasks that involve your hands. When you create something tangible, like a strategy map or art, you’re not just thinking about your goals — you’re literally activating parts of your brain that aren’t accessed by language alone. After working with some very analytical types whose “best thinking” was no longer working, I leaned in to my artistic roots to develop an interactive framework that blends tech, art, psychology, and strategy to facilitate a tactile experience that gets at the insights buried deep beneath all that thinking. I was so nervous the first time I proposed to a client that we try my framework. A leader of a team of programmers at a large tech company, I was afraid she’d regret hiring me or worse, consider me “woo woo.” “I mean come on, art school was a long time ago. I’d since earned a PhD after all,” I thought - then propsed it anyway. “Wait.” She asked, “You’re talking about a vision board?” I mustered up every bit of courage not to shrink. (For much of my life I’ve suffered from what I call the “take-me-seriously” disease.) “Yes. That’s right, but better.” I continued, “It’s the process, not the product that’s impactful.” She graciously agreed to play along and to this day, her desired results keep coming - so much so that she keeps building on her initial one! This client, and others since, was able to access different parts of her brain and therefore articulate with her hands what she could not express with words alone. Success is more than strategy, it’s all-sensory. Just like life. Choose a date and register: https://lnkd.in/gebwfw8M

76% of employees are actively looking for continuous learning and professional development opportunities. And, 68% of us prefer to learn and train at work. But, only 40% of Fortune 500 companies use some type of LMS... Leaders: Consider that you can provide learning and professional development opportunities by encouraging workers to try on a new skill, lead a new team, or spearhead a new initiative. Making space for them to stretch, explore, and GROW is their ultimate (and indispensable) reward. Contributors: While there's wisdom in the idiom, "Bloom where you're planted." There is also great value in knowing when you need a bigger pot. Remember: Your growth matters most.

"Don't call it comeback." For my big birthday this year, I get to dig deeper into the purpose and reason of the work I do and how that work facilitates the life I love. Yeah, I was the kid with holes in my shoes, being teased for being on welfare, AND that taught me to appreciate small comforts, start working for my own money at 7-years old, and to never take opportunity for granted. To this day, I bust my butt because I can. Life is what you make it, so make every iteration of it beautiful and useful. Take the risks, shake off the disappointments, learn to discern between hateful criticism and constructive critique. Toss the hate but keep the lesson. Learn to laugh at yourself. Know that a honest person is a true friend, and always show up for your dreams because you are a sure bet. Remember: There is no "comeback.” There's only “Go Time.” Kibibi Springs, PhD, ACC, Fitwel Ambas., CEAS Rodney Franks Joy Hoover Alicia Dunams Kevin Smith, MBA Sanyika Calloway Jenny Durbin, FMP Lisa Daniels Leanne Johnston Allie Day, RID, NCIDQ Adriane Massey Rebecca Cooley Natacha Hildebrand Marike Smith, CDP Sharon Hunt AMBERLY LAGO Donaciano Ponce de Leon Ramona Quinn Tyson Knauf #coach #executivepresence #careershaping #levelup #businesscreative #worklifejourney
