New data from the DCRI-led RACE CARS Trial showed that with 911 intervention, bystanders performed CPR on women 44% of the time and on men 40% of the time. Without this guidance, these rates dropped to 9% for women and 11% for men. Developing & sharing knowledge that improves health around the world through innovative clinical research.
About us
As part of the Duke University School of Medicine, the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) is known globally for conducting groundbreaking multinational trials, managing major national patient registries, and performing landmark research. As an academic clinical research organization, we combine the faculty expertise of practicing physicians with the full-service operational capabilities of a major CRO. We design and implement innovative clinical trials that advance the understanding of health and disease and inform efforts to improve the quality of care. Our experience stretches from phase I to phase IV and beyond, encompassing post-approval analyses and health economics. The breadth of our work in numerous therapeutic areas is matched by the depth of our knowledge, which we disseminate through high-impact publications and global meetings. Since 1996, DCRI's faculty and staff have disseminated over 17,500 peer-reviewed publications and have been cited in over 760,500 scientific articles.

Over 37 million adults in the U.S. have chronic kidney disease – yet racial disparities mean not everyone faces the same risks. A new research consortium led by the DCRI and The Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity at Duke University is focusing on addressing the striking disparities in kidney health linked to structural racism. DCRI's Jonathan Piccini, MD, MHS analyzed the key strengths and weaknesses of the #AHA24 late-breaker PROMPT-AF - a pivotal trial that confirms the efficacy seen in the previous VENUS trial, demonstrating that a more extensive ablation strategy can be an important treatment option for persistent #AFib patients. However, key questions remain about patient selection and whether benefits would be the same for those treated with pulsed-field ablation. #clinicalresearch #ablation

Taking the 'pro' stance at #AHA24, DCRI's Karen Alexander made a compelling case for statins for primary prevention in adults age 75+. Heart disease & dementia loom large in late life, and data shows statins may reduce CV events, especially in those with CAC. #clinicaltrials #cardiovascular #statins

During a session on best practices in Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), DCRI’s Jennifer Rymer responded to questions about patients lost to follow-up. Reflecting on her experience doing procedures in a rural community, she urged the audience to consider patient access and affordability when prescribing so that the patient is setup for success. #cardiology #patientcare #prescriptions

Despite the tremendous benefit of newer medications to treat diabetes and ASCVD, only 20-25% of patients are on high-intensity statins, half are on ACE/ARBs, and less than 10% are on SGLT2s or GLP1s. During #AHA24, DCRI's Neha Pagidipati highlighted the implementation lessons of the COORDINATE-Diabetes study and DRIVE trial that demonstrated a respective 23% and 65% increase in prescription rates. #clinicaltrials #clinicalresearch #diabetes
