About us

The mission of the Early Career Ocean Professionals Group (ECOP) is to contribute to new ways of thinking that address global challenges related to ocean sustainability and stewardship. We'll do this by ensuring that ECOPs have opportunities to learn and develop to reach their full potential. Underlying this effort is the goal of the ECOP group to provide meaningful opportunities for ECOPs from around the world to engage with each other and with local to global institutions underneath the framework of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

  • 📢 A fantastic opportunity for ECOPS to join the OceanXplorer, one of the world's most advanced research and exploration vessels, which will host two dedicated training cruises in the first quarter of 2025. ⛴️ The voyages will run from Walvis Bay (Namibia) to Mindelo (Cabo Verde) and from Mindelo to Las Palmas (Spain), with approximate durations of 17 days and 5 days, respectively. Exact dates are anticipated for mid-March but are yet to be confirmed. ✍️ The programme is open to early-career ocean professionals, technicians, postgraduate students (PhD/MSc), and post-doctoral researchers who are over 25 years old, nationals of, and actively engaged in, ocean-related work or studies in developing countries or countries with economies in transition (priority will be given to ECOPs from African countries ECOP AFRICA NODE).   • 📢 Peace Boat US “Youth for the SDGs” program for the UN Ocean Decade : 2025 Patagonia and Antarctica Voyage Peace Boat US is excited to announce the next "Youth for the SDGs" program onboard the 119th Global Voyage from Ushuaia, Argentina, sailing through the fjords to Antarctica and arriving in Punta Arenas, Chile. As a nonprofit organization, Peace Boat US works to promote a culture of peace and sustainability through educational programs held onboard Peace Boat's ship, the MV Pacific World. In partnership with the United Nations SDG Action Campaign and other key stakeholders, Peace Boat’s activities empower participants, strengthen local capacity for sustainability, and build cooperation beyond borders. The report covers the methodology, results, discussion and actionable recommendations devised from the survey. 🇰🇷 Republic of Korea survey report - 2023 - 2024: https://lnkd.in/dtzCF5Mm ✨ More info: In this report, the K-ECOP node (officially the national ECOP node of the Republic of Korea) presents the findings from their 2023 National Survey, which was conducted from October to December 2023. This survey served as a foundation for understanding the needs of Korean ECOPs and guiding the future direction of K-ECOP initiatives. This report collates and analyses the findings of the survey, to highlight barriers, improvements, and funding priorities for the ECOP Malaysia node.
