Creating a genuinely circular PET economy requires more than recycling and reducing use. It’s about creating the right environment for scalable, sustainable innovation, such as implementing effective EPRs, increasing recycling targets, and expanding infrastructure to include mechanical and chemical recycling. To make this shift, we need to: 1. Drive demand for post-consumer recycled content 2. Invest in and de-risk circular innovation 3. Incentivize domestic recycling infrastructure Now is the time to prioritize domestic recycling and reduce reliance on imports. To build a true circular economy, we need to scale recycling solutions. PET and polyester have a high potential for circularity, yet so much goes to waste. Molecular recycling offers a complementary alternative to mechanical recycling by breaking down waste into its essential components, which can be used to create new plastic products, unlike other methods that convert plastic to fuel. We did it AGAIN! For the third year in a row, Eastman is thrilled to announce another record-breaking victory for recycling on November 9. Thanks to the incredible support of the Vol Network and University of Tennessee, Knoxville, football fans, we successfully completed the three-peat by defending and breaking our 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 for the world's largest college recycling event. This achievement includes recycling plastic, aluminum, paper products, cardboard, wooden pallets, composting, and food donations—all contributing to a greener, cleaner future. 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀: 2024: 52,538 pounds 2023: 44,950 pounds 2022: 38,452 pounds For a combined 𝟭𝟯𝟱,𝟵𝟰𝟬 𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 from landfill. Americans deserve a PET recycling system that lives up to its promise. 🔹 30% of U.S. plastic packaging and textiles are PET material, like drink bottles and food trays. We can help solve our plastic waste crisis. A new report from Systemiq Ltd. shows how to achieve a genuinely circular PET economy by 2040. By adding innovative recycling technologies to supplement existing mechanical recycling, the report finds that we can slash projected greenhouse gas emissions from PET packaging by 58% and create close to 50,000 jobs.
