#IAmABeachGuardian We had the most amazing opportunity this weekend, during a family visit to Cornwall, to join one of the wonderful Beach Guardian community beach cleans at Fistral Beach. And we found that it was so much more than litter picking. Founded by father and daughter duo, Rob and marine biologist Emily, the Beach Guardian objective is to 'engage, educate, and empower against plastic pollution' The beach clean started with Rob's interactive (and fascinating) presentation about the plastic waste in our oceans and the impact that it has on all it's wildlife. We got to see examples of some of the many different types of plastic polluting our waters and beaches. Rob's facts and figures were truly alarming. One thing really stood out to us, 1 hour of beach cleaning isn't enough, nor is 1 day, 1 week, or 1 month.... And it wasn't about picking up discarded crisp packets and drinks cans...it was searching through grains of sand to find tiny 'nurdles' of plastic that pollute our oceans and get washed up onto our beaches. The solution isn't more beach cleans...it's less plastic.
