In 2025, the multi-year process of improving and updating the B Corp certification standards is coming to completion. The B Corp standards and certification have always been key tools in achieving a broader mission: transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet. These standards must evolve to continue serving this goal. Clay Brown, Interim Co-Executive Lead at B Lab Global, appeared on LIFT Economy's Beyond the B Podcast to discuss the new standards and outline the steps B Lab and the B Corp community must take to change the economic system. To accomplish this, we need to: "Change the structure of the economic system, which includes: policies, regulations, the ecosystems in which businesses operate from a structural point of view." "Change the culture—we need to change the narratives around what business is, the role of business in society, and the way businesses have a responsibility to others outside of their four walls." "We need to change the behavior of businesses." According to Brown, "in order for us to actually ever get to a place where we can truly change the structure and the culture, we need to have enough businesses that are demonstrating they can behave in a different way, that it creates an ecosystem of businesses that can then advocate for a better way of doing business… both from a structural point of view, but also through a cultural point of view…" Be sure to check out the full podcast episode to learn more!
