solutions for the mechanical treatment of surfaces by roller burnishing, deep rolling and skiving/roller burnishing
About us
ECOROLL Corporation Tool Technology is the sales office in Milford, Ohio of the ECOROLL AG in Celle, Germany. We are the leading manufacturer and developer of tools and machines for mechanical surface finishing by roller burnishing and deep rolling as well as for skiving and roller burnishing. In close cooperation with customers, we develop and manufacture suitable solutions for mechanical surface processing. Our tools can be quickly, easily and safely integrated into existing machine tools, ensuring maximum customer benefit. Roller burnishing is particularly suitable as a downstream process to machining in order to achieve a tightly toleranced surface quality in a reliable and targeted manner. A roughness that is 20 times lower than that of machining is just as common as achieving roughness values of less than Rz < 1 µm. During deep rolling, complex structural changes are specifically exploited in order to introduce residual compressive stresses with as little force and energy as possible. With the right design, this leads to a 5 times longer service life under dynamic loads. In the case of skiving and roller burnishing, the usual honing process can be completely replaced in cylinder tube machining. In a hybrid process of machining and mechanical surface treatment, the shape of the cylinder tubes is significantly improved and the required surface quality is achieved at the same time. A process time reduction of up to 90% is possible thanks to the combined process. Check out our single-roller tools! They are usually used for roller burnishing. They machine a wide range of complex contours and surfaces such as concave fillets and grooves as well as cylindrical and conical outer surfaces and bores. These tools comprise series EG, EF and FAK. EG tools are divided into tool families EG5, EG14, EG45 and EG90. They burnish cylindrical outer surfaces and bores, conical bores, plane surfaces and fillets. For deep rolling of fillets and thread root radii EF, FAK and FA tools are used. Single-roller tools consist of a tool body equipped with a tool shank, a spring assembly that allows the roller head to move with no play and very low friction. The standard version contains a dial indicator for indirect indication of the spring force. As an option, the tools can be equipped with ECOsense process monitoring for external display of the spring force. The roller head is attached to the flexible, spring-loaded section of the tool body.

Check out our multi roller tools! They are usually used for roller burnishing. Types G, R and RA machine cylindrical through and blind bores, stepped bores and cylindrical external surfaces including similar non-cylindrical surfaces. RP, RK, RKA and RKAK tools are designed for plane surfaces, cones and spherical surfaces. RH/RHA tools deep roll fillets and chamfers. FA tools deep roll large thread root radii. All ECOROLL multi-roller tools can be used on CNC turning, drilling or milling machines and machining centers or on conventional machine tools. They can be characterised by reliable functioning and high precision. Adjustment of diameters is very convenient, and only nominal lubrication is required. Futhermore, replacement of wear parts is very simple. This uncomplicated maintenance and short primary processing times enable significant time savings.

This component was produced by a 3D printer 🤯 Can you believe it? It was sent to us for deep rolling and our HG6 tool showed what a difference deep rolling makes visually alone. The residual compressive stresses introduced, which increase the hardness and thus significantly increase the service life of the component, are not visible.

Do you already know that ECOROLL can also make chips? Special skive and burnishing tools machine raw material tubes to high performance internal diameters in one path. Machining a Ø200mm and 8 meter long raw ID to desired tolerances and Ra 0.1µm in less than 8 minutes – that is what we call productivity. These tubes are prepared for so many different applications. See following quick info and let us know if you want to talk more into detail with our specialists. Would you like to find out more? Single-roller mechanical rolling tools are ideal for processing cage bends and radii, as the roller installed at 45 degrees can process a wrap angle of 90 degrees. They are also very easy to integrate into machine tools and no additional forms of energy are required for operation. Would you like to find out more about deep rolling? Single-roller mechanical roller tools consist of a base body, a rolling head and a tool shaft, which is equipped with a backlash-free and low-friction progressive spring arrangement. The roller is held axially and radially and is guided over the surface in a controlled manner. It is installed at 45 degrees, enabling a wrap angle of 90 degrees to be machined. This type of tool is therefore particularly suitable for processing basket arches and radii. In our YouTube video, our Head of Research and Development Dr.-Ing. Oliver Maiß explains the process of deep rolling and its application on basket bends and radii in more detail: https://lnkd.in/eyzJCXbe Also read our blog post: https://lnkd.in/eZsMRAwP

Deep rolling vs. machine hammer peening (MHP) Deep rolling is a continuous process, as the rolling body is pressed onto the surface with a rolling force, resulting in a continuous and even load on the surface. Machine hammer peening, on the other hand, is a discontinuous process; there is no continuous contact with the surface. The hammer head is repeatedly and periodically hammered into the surface. Although it is controlled, the surface structure cannot be predicted. However, this method allows a significantly lower residual compressive stress to be applied, which is particularly advantageous for large components in order to increase their service life. Deep rolling, on the other hand, requires very high rolling forces. Would you like to find out more about mechanical surface hammering?
