Fantastic!! We're proud of you Daneé Pinckney
Students were so ready to go on our first field trip for the year because it’s become one of the reasons students look forward to taking the class. I love being able to tie together the culinary traditions and oral storytelling of Western Africa for my students through our visit to Choukouya with our griots, The Cleveland Black Storytellers. Well, the day of, I looked outside...no busses! Y’all, I’d scheduled the busses for the wrong day! Everything else was planned perfectly, down to the dotted i’s on the purchase orders, but arguably the most major step, I had messed up. I can’t say no worries, because I was definitely worried. I gathered my students to break the news and let them know I was working on a way to fix it all. After some nail-biting and stress-sweating, it did all work out thanks to the help of our transportation dept and one of our office angels! It is human to be fallible, and this is no different in education. As an educator, displaying that fallibility to students can be so valuable to model problem-solving and more. My students watched me *frantically* persevere to find a solution to correct my mistake, AND they got to see me work through my process for regulating stress in my body even after the problem was solved. This definitely was not intentional, but it will be valuable in the next weeks as we discuss wellness and relinquishing negative traits of survived adaptability through Black literature. In the end, we had a fantastic time, and I will be sure to triple check my dates going forward 😅
