📍New Horizons in Technology Diplomacy Summit Istanbul 🕌 Thanks to EELISA European University , my collegue Ralf Mitschke and me travelled to Istanbul Technical University to represent FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and Chair of Science, Technology and Gender Studies led by Prof. Dr. Maria Rentetzi at the summit on #technologydiplomacy 🤖 Throughout the summit, questions on the definition of tech and science diplomacy, the importance of #sciencediplomacy and its growth in influence on current politics as well as its interplay with national and international politics on #climatechange, #artificialintelligence, and #polarresearch were explored 🗺️ As #physicist and #ModelUnitedNations project director, #science and #diplomacy always occupied parts of my life and work, showing me more often than expected the overlay and interplay of these two areas 👩🏼🔬👩🏻⚖️ In my opinion, the entanglement of these two disciplines should be discussed widely in both subject areas – among scientists and politicians – to enhance the #interdisciplinarity and extend the fundamental groundwork (inter)national politics are based upon 🌍

Thrilled to have participated in the "New Horizons in Technology Diplomacy: Challenges, Opportunities, and Future Strategies" workshop (Jan 13-14) at Istanbul Technical University! Over an inspiring 1.5 days EELISA event, we explored current global issues such as 🌍 Polar Research & Climate Change and 🤖 AI & Cybersecurity, highlighting the critical intersections between science, technology, and diplomacy.   Key discussions from first day:  🔹The the pivotal role of universities in fostering innovation and international collaboration 🔹Ethical and sociological implications of AI, cybersecurity and the challenges of accountability in the age of 'algocracy'. 🔹Balancing transparency and security in emerging technologies such as quantum diplomacy and AI governance. On the second day, we looked to the future by exploring global issues through the backcasting method. My group focused on Quantum Diplomacy and Transparency, where we mapped out the stakeholders, frameworks and technologies needed to achieve a secure and transparent future. It was a rewarding challenge to create a comprehensive pathway in such a limited time!
