It’s #HumanRightsDay tomorrow and three of the 10 priority issues identified by the IHRB place a spotlight on the importance of looking at businesses responsibilities/roles during the pre, ongoing and post conflict situations. We’ve just re-launched the Conflict Risk Network membership. Through this space we will look at the role of investors in mitigating conflict impacts and facilitating peer to peer knowledge building events that will help investors navigate the challenges of integrating conflict risk into their social analysis. An important event in London tomorrow (4pm) for all those who want to open up the conversation about whether investments in conflict affected areas can contribute to peace and benefit from financial de-risking through local peace-making intiatives. So this goes beyond seeking to avoid complicty in war crimes and minimising the risk of egregious human rights impacts in your existing investments to ask whether investors can address the underlying drivers of conflict through carefully constructed peace bonds and similar. I'm delighted to be on their standards committee and encourage all those interested in Conflict Risk to find out more about this potentially significant innovation.

Our team is looking forward to attending the UN Business and Human Rights Forum next week in Geneva. This forum is a great opportunity to explore key trends and challenges on business and human rights and to deepen discussions around implementing the UNGPs. It gathers a diverse group of participants, including representatives from international organizations, governments, civil society, businesses, and communities. Plenty happening next week, as I head to the Principles for Responsible Investment conference in Toronto. ✈️Wednesday morning (Oct 9th) I'll be talking about RIAA's Investor Toolkit on Human Rights and Armed Conflict, at a breakfast event by EIRIS Conflict Risk Network on Mapping Conflict Risk and Peace Finance. Led by Peter Webster, and I'll be speaking alongside Fiona Reynolds, RIAA Board Member Kate Turner, Samantha Chua and Sam Jones. Link to the event in comments if you want to come along. I'll also link to our toolkit FYI. ✈️The Global Sustainable Investment Alliance have a 2 day CEO's meeting prior to the PRI conference. Looking forward to sharing opportunities and challenges with our global equivalents, learning plenty and meeting James Alexander, Maria Lettini, Patricia Fletcher, Angélique Laskewitz, Aleksandra Palinska and Masaru Arai in person for the first time. The GSIA is a key group that allows us to tap into, align with, and understand the global landscape our members are operating in. Great to be continuing our collaboration.
