  • The Elko County School District College & Career Fair took place earlier this week! Over 1,300 juniors and seniors from ECSD explored career and educational paths with 80 vendors, including local and national employers and colleges. A big thank you went out to our dedicated vendors for inspiring and engaging Elko County students with their time and commitment throughout the year. #CareerReady #WeAreECSD #GrowHereGoAnywhere

  • The Building Trades and Welding classes at West Wendover High School have been busy upgrading the school's football field structures. Led by Teacher Spenser Hardman, students have almost finished constructing a new ticket booth from scratch. What’s left of the project is a custom railing and the cement pour for the ADA-compliant ramp, which students hope to finish in the next couple of weeks. Their next project is renovating the announcer’s booth, originally donated by the filmmakers of "Con Air" in 1997 and still contains some of the original materials from the movie. “The students are proving that even with limited funds, great things can happen,” Principal Craig Kyllonen said. That same “can-do” attitude continues. The school recently competed in T-Mobile's Friday Night 5G Lights program, an awareness campaign celebrating the recent addition of 5G coverage in rural America, and a competition for small-town high schools to win a $2 million football field makeover. While West Wendover was not the grand prize winner, it was a semi-finalist, winning $5,000 to support its football program. The City of West Wendover and local contractors have provided additional support for the revitalization projects, including improved parking. Wells Rural Electric Company has also sponsored a generous $20,000 grant for visitor-side bleachers. “We're proud to see the community and students working together to bring new life to the field,” said Kyllonen. #GrowHereGoAnywhere #CTEMatters #WorkforceLearning

  • At the October 15th school board meeting, trustees received a presentation from the Elko High School HOSA-Future Health Professionals officers. The students presented on their recent fundraiser awareness campaign called Colors for Cancer #EHSC4C, which included events, social media campaigns, and a "miracle minute" at the school, which raised $475 during the homecoming assembly. Let's hear it for these future leaders and their club advisor Teven Thomas!

  • Spring Creek High School Building Trades students have been permitted to participate in industry tours of the SCHS CTE Building, which is currently under construction. Earlier this month, with teacher Gordon Thomas, the students were escorted by Larry and Brian of MGM Construction and Rolando of ACHA Construction to learn about the engineering of footings, the math and reasoning of footing design and size, and how using rebar increases the strength of concrete. Tom from Sanbell (formerly Summit Engineering) taught about the importance of material engineering and how math is an everyday skill on a site. We are thankful that the companies and their employees involved in the project are allowing our students to learn in real-time about construction practices and careers directly involved in the construction industry by the people who live it daily! #CTE #GrowHereGoAnywhere

  • This week, Superintendent CJ Anderson, along with Superintendents from Humboldt, Lander, and White Pine counties, are in Washington, D.C. to discuss education funding, student and staff mental health, and other key national initiatives with our Nevada legislators. Superintendent Anderson's attendance highlights ECSD's dedication to these issues. Thank you for working on behalf of rural Nevada students!
