Pushing power to and from batteries is at the heart of our business, so we're naturally excited to see California's legislation promoting bidirectional charging. With intense weather events on the rise and electric vehicles offering large amounts of energy storage right in the owner's driveway, catalyzing systems and standards that build out vehicle energy support systems now is a perfect fit for EVs. How would you rate your last charging session? Do the words "painful", "reduced", "unsuccessful", or "ended prematurely" enter the equation? They do for 41% of sessions attempted by users during 18 months monitored by ChargeHub, which records data and feedback from charging sessions across the networks to which it connects. Although the data show a slight improvement over previous reports from the software company, progress is not nearly fast enough to address wider consumer concerns about public charging infrastructure before they'll consider an EV. The report (linked below) categories carve out important reminders that even successful charging sessions can dampen customer experience when they are difficult to activate or deliver subpar power levels. To drive stronger EV adoption across the United States and Canada, our sector must step up and make the negative phrases listed above a thing of the past. We've seen this transition play out in Norway, then across Europe, and want the same reliability and convenience for North American drivers. #evcharging #evinfrastructure #chargingthefuture

Just one audio recommendation this week, but it's a heavy-duty one! Check out Terawatt's Chief Development Officer Mike Englhard speaking to Florian Fontaine-Papion for the Scaling Climate Tech podcast, covering HDEV charging, interconnection challenges, and filling industrial-scale EV batteries with clean energy. Listen here: https://lnkd.in/eUaF49TW Mike brings a wealth of experience to the conversation, especially with his commercial real estate background and project deployment skills. This episode provides a great orientation on the current status of U.S. freight electrification and how different players are approaching electric vehicle deployment across their fleets. #fleets #fleetmanagement #freightelectrification

Without intentional energy management, EV charging risks stretching the grid, rather than supporting it. The rising demand for high power EV charging systems across North America, particularly for fleet and heavy-duty transportation applications, raises the potential for overloading, inefficient energy use and additional costs, all of which make the transition to sustainable transport more of a burden than it needs to be. Purpose-built energy management platforms are the key to mitigating this risk, transforming charging stations from grid burden to grid boosters. For example, Elywhere’s Energy Orchestration System (EOS) employs intelligent load management to align key data points and deliver the most appropriate power distribution for any given scenario. Subject to customer priorities, EOS adjusts in real-time to pull, store, and deliver energy optimally. From maximizing the use of clean energy during peak generation times to supporting the grid with demand response capabilities, EOS addresses grid challenges head-on, providing a smart, flexible solution that addresses current demands and anticipates future needs. Learn more about EOS capabilities via the link below or contact ena@elywhere.com to discuss how the system could go to work for your business. #evcharging #energystorage #gridresilience

More and more electric trucks are hitting California's roads 🔋 🚛 Congratulations to Volvo Trucks North America on adding another 70 vehicles to fleets across SoCal this week. The trucks will be used for regional drayage and are funded in part by the SWITCH-ON initiative, which is backed by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and contributed $21.5 million to the latest additions. Among the fleets that will benefit from the program are CEVA Logistics, Performance Team, and NFI. California's long-term EV plans call for all passenger vehicles to be zero-emission by 2035, while medium- and heavy-duty vehicles have a deadline of 2045 to reach that goal. As more HDEVs are added to the state's roads, getting high-power charging into existing depots, hubs, and commercial fueling properties is the next big challenge. More information on this news and challenges via the comment links below. #electrictrucks #EVcharging #HDEV

3,242 calendar days -- or almost nine years... That's the maximum timeline for the more taxing capacity upgrades facing the California Public Utilities Commission. A new substation to power #HDEV-charging depots, for example. Even a substation upgrade clocks in at more than two and a half years. Now, senior trucking professionals are sounding the alarm on this critical conflict between the Golden State's pioneering targets for freight electrification and the reality of building out the required infrastructure. “We’ve millions of dollars in the facilities and more in motion. If we can’t get the power, this all comes to a screeching halt.” ~ Paul Rosa, SVP of Procurement and Fleet Planning at Penske Truck Leasing / Powering America’s Commercial Transportation (PACT) board member. In addition to legislative efforts to remove administrative burdens and speed up utility upgrades, North America needs to look to alternative fast charging solutions, from dynamic power distribution that can smooth load demands to battery-integrated systems that cut installation time and support the grid, rather than stretching it. If your fleet plans are facing barriers in the form of limited grid capacity and extended upgrade timelines, our team can help. Contact ena@elywhere.com or call us on +1 971-233-2026 to start the conversation that gets your freight electrification efforts back on track. #electrictrucks #bess #evcharging

We couldn't possibly splice together all of the wisdom shared during the Canadian edition of FullyCharged.SHOW & Everything Electric earlier this month, but we're glad the event team got some of the sessions from the Elywhere Giga Theatre stage recorded! This session with The Vancouver Sun's Andrew McCredie is one of them, with the veteran reporter and Robert Llewellyn covering key topics from surging EV adoption in British Columbia to Canadian tariffs on Chinese EVs. Check out their conversation below and stay tuned for any more that make the cut! #electrification #BritishColumbia #everythingelectriccanada

Aggressive #HDEV electrification deadlines + yearslong grid upgrade timelines = a recipe for failed targets. As reported by Canary Media Inc.'s Jeff St. John (link below), efforts to electrify fleet and freight transportation projects along the West Coast are facing delays due to utility projects that stretch well into the next decade. Although legislative adjustments are underway to speed up energization and service upgrades, few in the commercial transportation sector believe these efforts are enough to get HDEV charging infrastructure in the ground as quickly as it is needed. “No one’s going to buy a fancy EV truck if they can’t charge it,” says Sky Stanfield for the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC). We couldn't agree more and believe that a wide range of charging solutions are key to unlocking fleet electrification in California and beyond. Battery-integrated systems with MegaCharge capabilities will play an important role in this transition and will be available on much quicker timelines than grid upgrades. Reach out to ena@elywhere.com to connect with our team about these solutions. #fleets #fleetmanagement #electrictrucks
