  • A recent Newsweek article highlights a crucial point: Indigenous Peoples and local communities (IP&LCs) are key stewards of the world's tropical forests, yet they face significant barriers in accessing finance through #CarbonMarkets. Bridging this gap is essential not just for communities, but for the global fight against #deforestation and climate change. Key takeaways: - Role of IP&LCs: Indigenous communities manage vast areas of tropical forests critical for carbon storage and biodiversity, making their involvement in carbon markets essential for meaningful impact. - Barriers to Access: Current market structures often exclude IP&LCs due to high transaction costs, complex verification requirements, and limited technical support. - The Path Forward: Ensuring equitable benefit-sharing, simplifying credit issuance processes, and investing in capacity-building are vital steps to empower IP&LCs and enable their full participation in carbon markets. The article underscores the need for robust, high-integrity frameworks like Jurisdictional REDD+ (#JREDD) to ensure IP&LCs can access and benefit from #CarbonFinance while safeguarding Indigenous rights and cultural heritage. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dGKugBmY #IndigenousRights #CarbonMarkets #ClimateAction #TropicalForests #Sustainability

  • 2024 marked a transformative year for #CarbonMarkets, with major milestones such as the Science Based Targets initiative's announcement that it is considering options for use of environmental attribute certificates, including carbon credits to tackle #Scope3 emissions; and VCMI’s approval of nature-based credits, including the Architecture for REDD+ Transactions (ART) TREES standard, for its Core Carbon Principles label. The year also saw the finalization of the #Article6 rulebook at #COP29, paving the way for a UN backed global carbon market.  These developments, coupled with growing global demand and heightened focus on environmental and social safeguards, have strengthened confidence in high integrity #CarbonCredits and driven robust market growth.  Looking ahead to 2025, Emergent will host a series of carbon market webinars exploring these critical advancements.  Collaboration remains key to carbon market success, and we’d love to hear from you – let us know which topics would be of most interest to you via the poll below.

  • ✈ This week, the Emergent team attended #AviationCarbon 2024, a leading industry event bringing together airlines, regulators, and carbon market stakeholders to explore the role of sustainable aviation fuels and #CarbonCredits in meeting aviation's #decarbonization goals, including compliance with #CORSIA. 🌍 With global aviation gearing up to meet CORSIA’s Phase 1 obligations starting in 2027, the demand for high-integrity carbon credits is rapidly growing. Emergent’s work with countries supplying Jurisdictional REDD+ (#JREDD) credits provides access to scalable, cost-effective #CarbonFinance solutions that meet airline #compliance and #sustainability needs. 💡 Our key takeaways from the event: - Demand is mobilizing: The demand market for CORSIA is beginning to scale as airlines seek to secure supply volumes - JREDD is compelling: Jurisdictional credits are a strong asset class for compliance due to high levels of political buy-in and protection against localized supply risks - Long-term partnerships matter: Reliable partners are needed to secure CORSIA access for your future compliance needs - Simplification is key: Efficient, streamlined solutions are needed to navigate CORSIA compliance with limited resources 📩 We are currently working to build a pipeline of CORSIA eligible credits and expect to make further announcements in the coming months.
