Belonging is more than a workplace goal—it’s the foundation of thriving, motivated, and innovative teams. Mimi Nicklin - Empathy Advocate brilliantly captures the essence of how empathy and psychological safety are not just 'nice to haves' but critical drivers of success. Her words, 'When people feel they belong, they show up, step up, and speak up,' couldn’t resonate more deeply with the work we do at Empathy in Action Consulting. Every day, we see how creating spaces where employees feel valued, heard, and supported transforms not just individuals but entire organizations. The statistics Mimi shares are a wake-up call: 56% increase in job performance. 50% drop in turnover risk. 75% reduction in sick days. It’s clear—putting empathy at the heart of leadership isn’t just good for culture; it’s good for business. At Empathy in Action Consulting, we champion listening-led leadership, trauma-informed practices, and restorative conflict resolution to build teams that thrive. We believe in creating environments where diversity isn’t just tolerated—it’s celebrated. Thank you, Mimi, for your ongoing advocacy and for showing us how empathy in leadership can drive profound and profitable change. Let’s keep the conversation going: How do you foster belonging and inclusion in your workplace? #Empathy #Belonging #PsychologicalSafety #Leadership #Inclusion #WorkplaceCulture #DiversityMatters #EmpathyInAction #EmployeeEngagement #TeamSuccess
Bestselling Author, Chief Empathy Officer, Podcaster. Reconnecting 1 Million People in empathy, everywhere. Training Listening Led Leadership. 17,500 professional students. Speaking Inquiries: hello@inkwell-mgmt.com
“I don’t belong, Mimi”. I sighed and told her my honest opinion. “Most people don’t” I reply. This conversation with an SVP of a global FMCG brand. She goes on to explain that she loves her work but she feels totally isolated in the delivery of it. And she assumes that none of her team do either. She feels powerless to find a sustainable solve, even with her senior status in the company. We know that high belonging was linked to a 56% increase in job performance, a 50% drop in turnover risk, and a 75% reduction in sick days (Harvard Business Review). And yet according to EY 75% of respondents felt excluded at work. When empathy is at the heart of a workplace, belonging, inclusion, and diversity come alive. Listening-led leadership at all levels (where we actively listen more than we speak) creates a space where everyone feels they can contribute without judgment, and where each person’s ideas and voice are valued. It’s quite simple really. This sense of belonging isn’t just beneficial; it’s essential for a team’s engagement and energy. In an inclusive and connected work environment, people bring their best, find purpose, and stay longer because they feel truly connected. We also see 76% higher engagement and 17% higher efficiencies (and did I mention the 23% higher profits?!) Psychological safety builds the foundation for this to become sustainable. This month alone I have worked with over 4500 professionals globally in brands like DP World and Stellantis to ripple this impact outwards. This training ensures your teams know that they can take risks, speak up, and share openly without fear. And that your leaders have the skillsets to enable this. When people feel they belong, they show up, step up, and speak up. And profits? Well, they go up, too. #empathy #empathyeverywhere #empathyinleadership #inspiringleadership #diversity #inclusion #psychologicalsafety #femaleleader #femaleceo #win #grow #succeed #culture

When individuals feel secure and confident enough to raise their hands and say, "I made a mistake" or "I could use some support," it truly reflects the leader's ability to create a compassionate and inclusive environment. This kind of atmosphere allows team members to share their vulnerabilities and reach out for help without fearing being judged or facing negative repercussions. A leader who fosters this sense of safety not only empowers individuals to be their authentic selves but also promotes open communication and collaboration—strengthening the bonds within the team while making everyone feel valued and respected for their contributions. Thank you to Lejon Reese of 1 Hundred Years Enterprise (www.1hundredyears.biz) and Motivated2HelpOthers (https://lnkd.in/dFTYj_v) for taking the time to highlight how CoBiz Richmond, Inc. served him as a returning citizen and how he utilized CoBiz with his team to serve under-serve youth. I am super proud of Fahim and his team, especially how they show up each day in their purpose to help youth avoid early death decisions and how they help returning citizens tap into genuine support and care. That is what an ecosystem is all about and that is what we are building at CoBiz. If you are interested in supporting our work or funding the great programs we offer to optimize our impact as an economic and community development engine, connect with us. Let's build.

Today, many of us feel a mix of disbelief, discomfort, and worry, especially those of us who have often felt on the margins of power. It’s a time to pause and sit with those emotions—to acknowledge the challenge of facing an uncertain future without letting it take away from our strength or our light. At Empathy in Action Consulting, we’re reminded that resilience doesn’t always mean optimism. Sometimes, it means giving ourselves the grace to process, to feel, and to gather our energy for the road ahead. In these moments, we lean into our communities, knowing that while today may feel heavy, we can find strength together. Take the time you need. We’re in this with you, and as we hold space for our feelings, we’ll continue working toward a future where everyone can thrive. "This, my dear, is the greatest challenge of being alive, to witness the injustice of the World, and not allow it to consume our light.” Quote from "The Oxherd Boy: Parables of Love, Compassion, and Community" Book by Regina Linke

Stop trying to hire the smartest people. Hire people who have these 6 key traits instead: 1. Gets Sh*t Done ✅ They’re the kind who delivers, whatever the obstacles. Challenges don’t stop them; they always push through. With their focus on execution, projects move fast. People know they’ll deliver, no matter how tough it gets. 2. Avoids Drama 🎭 They steer clear of gossip and unnecessary conflicts. When issues pop up, they focus on solutions, not drama. Their priority is a smooth, productive workspace. Colleagues respect them for keeping things calm and professional. 3. Trustworthy 🤝 You can count on them to get things done without supervision. When they commit, they’re reliable and follow through. Their consistency builds trust within the team and with leaders. Others know they’ll show up and perform, day in, day out. 4. Communicates Well 🗣️ They make ideas clear so everyone’s on the same page. Adjusts communication style to connect with all kinds of people. They listen and respond thoughtfully, keeping things smooth. Their clear communication keeps projects on track and reduces confusion. 5. Growth Mindset 🧠 Always looking to improve, they welcome any and all feedback. Their commitment to growth shows in their daily work. They actively seek feedback and apply it to get better. Their growth mindset motivates the whole team to level up. 6. Team Player 👥 They value collaboration and know it makes the team stronger. They share the wins and the losses with the group. Their focus is on the best results for everyone involved. This attitude makes them a valuable part of any team. These are employees that growth the quickest. And help drive your business to be the best it can be. Ultimately, as a leader, you don't want to be involved in the nitty-gritty. Having employees with these traits will help immensely with that. Did I miss any key traits? Drop them in the comments ⬇️ ♻️ Repost this to change the hiring narrative. And follow Chris Donnelly for more.
