Kerry Deitrick Garber, who knows I'm a major Swiftie 🫶 , shared this article with me today. In the hospitality industry, where profit margins are getting tighter at every turn, we’re always looking for creative (budget-friendly) ways to recognize and appreciate teams. I love that this article points out that it's consistency and authenticity that are key. It doesn't take a Swift-sized budget to build a culture where recognition is genuine and happens regularly. Over time, it’s consistent, everyday acts of appreciation that drive employee satisfaction and retention. At Empowered Hospitality, our internal teams chats are full of daily shout outs, recognition, and positive feedback, in addition to the formal recognition programs we have in place. It’s about making people feel valued, seen, and appreciated ... which can cost you ✨ nothing ✨ but a few minutes of your time. Do you take time during pre-service meetings to share positive guest feedback or your online five-star reviews? Do you have a team scheduling app with messaging where you encourage team shout outs? Hospitality network-share more ideas below if you have them! 👇 #recognitionera #restaurantculture

Goodbye, 2024! What a year.   This year, our team at Empowered Hospitality welcomed 70+ new HR and recruiting clients, onboarded amazing new teammates, and doubled down on the internal structure, tools, and benefits that enable us to do great work! Beneath the surface? Grit, grace, and adaptability. Supporting growing businesses while being part of one is not for the faint of heart. I'm so grateful to our entire incredible team, in particular Jessica Carnam, Laura Magali, Kaeleigh Chow, SPHR, and Kami Frota who have enabled us to expand our impact beyond my imagination!   This year, I learned the emotional and physical impossibility of being a working mom. Longing to be 100% committed to two things at once, and doing neither as well as you envisioned, has been humbling. It's been a lesson in "doing my best" and accepting that, on many days, it's less than what I expect from myself. There has been a lot of joy, some frustration, and anger at a broken childcare system that relies heavily upon undocumented labor and leaves working families to literally fend for themselves. Thank you to the women who have brought levity and unconditional support to this journey - Kim Lerner, Lauren Schacher, Randi Weinstein/the ladies of FAB, Melissa Ben-Ishay, and so many others.   This year, the ground continued to shift beneath our feet from a regulatory, political, and cultural perspective. Scrappy independent restaurants, accustomed to weathering just about any adversity, have felt the turbulence more than many other industries. Yannick Benjamin's recent NY Times Op Ed was a poignant example of how simply subsisting has become too difficult for many. At E|H, we will continue empowering business owners with information, creating better hospitality careers, and championing the art of the restaurant. We need the connection that happens around the dinner table more than ever.   Next year, I hope we can hold ourselves accountable to aligning our actions with our values. If we value our children, we need to build an infrastructure that makes working and raising a family feel less impossible. If we value our teams, we should treat them with gratitude and respect. If we value the local economy, and the authenticity and craftmanship of independent restaurants, we need to preserve them. As far as I'm concerned, this fresh start is an important one. 2025, let's get to work! #resolution #newyear #hospitality #motherhood

🙌 We're excited to announce not only a new episode of the Bar Hacks podcast, but a new format for the show! 🔥 Bar Hacks: ReFire sees KRG Hospitality partner and bar, beverage, and guest experience coach David Klemt team up with Empowered Hospitality client services director Bradley Knebel to discuss hospitality industry challenges, issues, and stories pulled from real life. 🎙️ On the first episode, David and Bradley provide their thoughts on three separate situations: a restaurant owner considering giving a part-time cook a second chance after he ghosted on the job just a month in; a bartender who was hired by a higher-end venue and received just one training shift (and who may be experiencing imposter syndrome), and perceives management as impatient toward questions; and a server who says the entire staff was "pranked" by the leadership team on an official company communications channel. 🎧 Listen now on Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts: https://lnkd.in/gE--BUJS Let us know what you think about the ReFire format! #podcast #barhacks #refire #advice #hospitality #restaurant #bar #hotel

  • With the election impending, political tensions are running hot. What should you do if politics start trickling into your team's conversations, or causing tension with your customers? How can you protect your workplace from political divisiveness? Here are some rules of thumb to help create healthy boundaries: 1. Determine your stance on politics in the workplace. Not all workplaces are alike. Clarify whether political discussions are part of your culture or if neutrality is preferred. 2. Establish clear guidelines. Communicate what is/is not acceptable. A solid set of guidelines will consider: ☑ Legal protections: Free speech and anti-discrimination requirements ☑ Company culture: Guiding principles for how teammates interact with one another, and specific behaviors you prohibit ☑ Guest relations: The type of guest experience you want to deliver ☑ Forms of political engagement: May include speech, attire, and actions ☑ Enforcement: Consistent consequences for violations 3. Ensure understanding. Don’t just write the policy—communicate it clearly. Use pre-shift meetings and staff communication tools to ensure all team members understand your expectations and have the opportunity to ask questions. 4. Make sure your guidelines are respected. Address violations quickly, consistently, and with empathy. Encourage dialogue but be firm when enforcing standards. Whether you need help developing your guidelines or addressing a particular issue, our team is here to help!
