Happy Saturday and Happy Summer, everyone! It’s been a while since my last post, and I’ve got some exciting highlights from May to July to share! 1. Summer Conferences: I attended some fantastic events, including Amazon Web Services (AWS)’s #reinforce2024 in Philadelphia, the AWS Summit in DC, and STEMNoire’s "Empowering Excellence: Black Women Leading the STEM Renaissance" in DC. I met incredible people across cloud, cybersecurity, and various professional fields. I’m excited about the lasting connections I’ve made. For more, check out my AWS on Air Broadcast at 1:04:36 for Women in Security hosted by Jasmine Kyles along with Samara Moore, Sarah Currey, and Jennifer Paz: https://lnkd.in/eYgaQSnh and my Breakout Session on "Accelerating Innovation Securely" with Scott Cruickshanks and Greg Eppel: https://lnkd.in/eZnv5Z5f 2. New Styling Confidence: Over the past few months, I've gotten some compliments on outfits either in the office, at conferences, and out on the town. I have to give credit where credit is due. That is my amazing stylist, Darshan Gress. Many of us struggle with outfit choices, especially when balancing public speaking and travel. Darshan, who has styled celebrities like Nicole Byer and Kelly Rowland, helped revamp my wardrobe, boosted my confidence, and transformed my whole life. I've never felt fabric this good, never expressed a perfect combination of professionalism and quirkiness (anime earrings anyone?), and never appreciated my body's dimensions until now. Thanks to my husband Chad Robinson for connecting me with her. If you're interested, visit Darshan's website: https://lnkd.in/eYYf4Y9y 3. Blerdcon Stands Apart: As a longtime fan of anime, comics, and gaming, Blerdcon was exceptional this year. From meeting Phil LaMarr and exploring black-owned merch to epic nighttime adventures with TikTok DJs (think the Pokemon theme song over the Ginuwine "Pony" trap beat) and themed food trucks. it was a blast. Shoutout to the subculture cosplay, drag queens, voice artists, and gamers that I was able to bond and fully nerd out with. I can’t wait for next year! Congrats to Ta-Von Wilson, CPA: Huge congratulations to my best friend and EY "Day One", Ta-Von Wilson, who graduated from The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and is starting his investment banking career at JPMorganChase. Seeing you achieve this milestone is a highlight of our friendship. Big ups to all the wonderful experiences and connections!

Whelp! I picked up my 5 year badge on Friday and celebrating my Amaversary!! I can't believe I'm hitting the 5 year mark at Amazon. Though it officially hits on May 13th, once I found out my badge was ready, I leapt at the opportunity! Let's run down the list since my last post about my 3 year milestone (Note: This covers 2022 to 2024): - Became an AWS Speaker Bar Raiser - Curated 3 AWS conference experiences (re:inforce 2022, re:inforce 2023, and almost complete with re:inforce 2024) - Spoke at 2 re:invents (re:invent 2022 and 2023) - Transferred to Service Team Enablement and Security Assurance Engineering to focus on Products and Control Management - Advised 10+ mentees - First module of a product launch with roadmap for more features underway - 50+ escalations - 3 Podcast Appearances - Became an IC and went back to managing a team - Wrote 3 strategies and 25+ narratives - Managed 2 Promotions for direct reports, Advised promotions for 10+ personnel - Became a BEN-Security Vice President It's been a truly transformative few years and I have to thank Azy Higginbotham, Sara Duffer, Robert Williams, Chris Haggard, Sara Duffer, Dr. Cynthia Sutherland, Samara Moore, Kajal D., Ron Johnston, Blake Frantz, and my awesome team and colleagues across AWS to making this experience memorable. Amazonians, Tech Colleagues, or Tech Enthusiasts- What will you celebrate in 5 years?

  • Now this is what I'm talking about!!! I don't know how many requests my colleagues and I receive about how to establish oneself in cyber security at large. it's like giving a giant sermon, drawing maps, and doing a research paper while tying my shoes at the same time. After reviewing this new LinkedIn Learning from my very own awesome friend in the field, Zinet Kemal, I'm going to direct everyone here first just like my interviewing at Amazon article from Nick Matthews. For anyone starting out or if you've been in the field for years, try this out if you're trying to take your career to the next level. Branding and positioning are crucial skills outside of foundational expertise and competency.
