5 WAYS YOU CAN PREVENT THE TOP FAILURE MODE IN ELECTRIC MOTORS! Did you know bearing failures are the leading cause of electric motor repairs, accounting for 51% of all repairs? Here are some ways to help you prevent them: 1) Lubricate According to Manufactures Guidelines - use the correct type of lubrication, follow the recommended lubrication interval and quantity, and be careful not to mix lubrication as they may be incompatible. 2) Ensure your machinery is precisely aligned and balanced! 3) Consider environmental factors and adjust accordingly - extreme dust and dirt, external heat, aggressive media or water can require special seals and techniques to keep contamination out. 4) Check if your motor running on a VFD. Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) can cause bearing damage in electric motors due to electric currents that run through the motor and discharge into the bearings. This can lead to pitting, frosting, and fluting in the bearings and races, which can damage the lubrication and bearing surfaces and cause harmful vibrations. Installing Aegis Rings are a simple way to divert the currents to ground maximizing the life of your VFD driven motors. 5) Establish a predictive maintenance program - monitoring machine data and detecting failures before they occur can save you downtime and increase profits. Vibration Analysis, Thermal Imaging, Oil Sample Analysis, Motor Circuit Analysis are all great ways to get started. Don't wait for failures to find you, take the next step to maximize your electric motor reliability, reduce repair costs, and supercharge the ROI of your equipment!
