We're excited to share that portfolio company ConnectDER has secured $35 million in Series-D funding to accelerate its market expansion and product innovation 🥂 The funding round was led by Decarbonization Partners, a partnership between BlackRock and Temasek, with participation from MassMutual Ventures; both are new investors. EIC is among the many existing investors who also participated. "With this latest Series D funding we’re poised to not only expand our existing markets but also our offerings by bringing a transformative solution for energy storage systems to the market," said Ivo Steklac, CEO of ConnectDER. "Our forthcoming IslandDER [Meter Socket Adapter] enables homes to disconnect and reconnect from the grid, enabling customers to harness stored energy from solar plus battery systems or EVs, providing innovative backup power and resilience to market at an incredibly competitive cost point." Last month, software development company ServiceNow announced their acquisition of EIC portfolio company Mission Secure. Mission Secure's technology will enable ServiceNow to provide OT (operational technology) asset visibility to customers in various industrial markets. "Most companies don’t fully know what assets are in their industrial OT environment or who has access to them," explained Jens Meggers, CEO of Mission Secure. "By integrating Mission Secure technology into [ServiceNow's] Now Platform, we will provide customers with the enhanced level of visibility needed to drive greater operational excellence and enable smarter decision-making across the organization." It was great to watch the first installation of portfolio company ConnectDER's meter socket adapters in Vermont on State of Charge, the YouTube channel from InsideEVs' Senior Editor Tom Moloughney. Given his extensive experience in the electric vehicle sector, we were happy to hear that he sees the meter socket adapters as a big step forward in the democratization of EV access. "In North America, one of the big problems to electric vehicle adoption is that many people can't install an electric vehicle charger in their home because they have a small service and perhaps an older home," he noted. "If you have, say, a 100-amp service and your panel is maxed out, you can install this [ConnectDER meter socket adapter] on your meter and still charge at 40 amps. It will intelligently manage the power." The video also highlighted Kia America, as the first OEM to endorse this product. "We're constantly asking our customers [...] 'What's the biggest problem that you have in the EV buying process?' And one of them is getting the charger installed at home," explained KIA Regulatory Strategy Specialist Alex Pawlowski "In the northeast, especially here in Vermont, we know that most homes have 100-amp panels."
