Today at DLL Solutions we want to highlight Rio Tinto’s innovative use of AVEVA PI System and AVEVA Production Management to optimize operations across its 17 mines in Australia. At Gudai-Darri, its most technologically advanced site, Rio Tinto significantly reduced manual data entry in its delay accounting system by modeling downtime scenarios for both the mine and its automated laboratory. With approximately 100,000 historical data points in its AVEVA PI Server, Rio Tinto leveraged asset framework models to classify over 200 downtime scenarios, automatically calculating their impact in real-time. By integrating AVEVA Production Management, Rio Tinto now: Eliminates manual data entry, reducing errors and saving operator time. Gains real-time insights into equipment availability, utilization, and operational efficiency. Automates downtime classification, ensuring consistent and objective reporting. Traditionally, the composite materials in turbine blades, such as fiberglass, have posed recycling difficulties, often leading to landfill disposal. Researchers in China have developed a method to crush and chemically treat these blades, integrating them into asphalt mixtures and cement concrete for durable roadways. A pilot project in Lanzhou demonstrated the viability of this technique, with a test road section remaining crack-free and stable after five months of use.
