Just as new #PIAAC data reveals sobering trends in U.S. workers' literacy and numeracy skills, Chelsea Miller of UpSkill America issues a timely call to action: "We encourage employers to not only build upskilling programs that meet workers where they are, but which intentionally support foundational skills." As English learners represent 1 in 10 working-age adults in the U.S., we must also recognize that these foundational workforce skills include English skills. Thanks to our colleagues at WorkingNation for publishing this thoughtful commentary. And a big shout out to all of the employers working hard to do this right now, and offering blueprints for how to offer English upskilling at scale. https://lnkd.in/eamDwMqc

As 2024 winds down, I’m reflecting on a year of incredible impact at EnGen. We’re a B-Corp on a moonshot mission to connect millions of adult English learners with real-world upskilling — and we’re making big progress towards that goal thanks to our network of clients, colleagues, partners, and friends. Here’s what we built together this year: * We DOUBLED the number of learners served. * We launched upskilling initiatives with 80 new employers and workforce partners. * We’ve recruited a multilingual team that reflects and advances our mission. * We launched new professional development and network opportunities to build community, capacity, and collaboration between employers, adult educators, and workforce partners. We’ve hustled hard this year, and I see growing momentum as we move into the next one. I’m grateful for our community of learners, employers, educators, and collaborators, and I can’t wait to see what we’ll build together in 2025. Happy holidays!

Employers are invested in connecting with untapped talent pools, but often struggle with where to start. There's good news: They don't have to work alone. At last week's National Partnership for New Americans #NIIC2024 conference, EnGen convened a cross-sector panel of experts, including the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment Office of New Americans, Dallas College, and Upwardly Global, in conversation around connecting adult English learners with pathways to high-demand skills, credentials, and employment. Here are 3 key takeaways from the conversation. https://lnkd.in/eCVA7Vai

Thanks to Natacha Agnant-Jacque for including us in your planning sessions. We love working with the team at Eurest and ESFM® USA! We're excited to continue our partnership to open pathways to skills, career mobility, and opportunity.
Inclusion doesn’t happen by chance—it takes action, intention, and collaboration. That’s exactly what made my time with the DIAC Leadership team (Ritu Dewan, Marc Oppen, Elise Weiss, MHRM, SHRM-SCP, and Chriselle Aquio) so impactful. We missed you Danielle (Agan) Lanciano. Our Diversity Inclusion Action Council (DIAC) is focused on driving lasting culture change, and we spent two days bringing that mission to life. We kicked off with a half day of brainstorming strategies to deepen workplace inclusion, followed by the simple yet meaningful act of breaking bread together. On day two, we partnered with Katie Brown, PhD and Adam Kaplan of EnGen as well as Denny Modesto ESL committee member, to celebrate the incredible success of our ESL program, which continues to empower and uplift so many. The relaunched DIAC is more than just a council—it’s a resource, a connector, and a driver of meaningful change. I’m excited to see the impact we’ll create together in 2025!

On EnGen's platform, real-world content helps our learners meet real-world goals like getting a new job, a pay raise, or being able to communicate with a child's teacher. This year, we grew our catalog of real-world, career-aligned courses and pathways to 174, adding courses like "English for Cloud Computing" and "English for Medical Assistants." Stay tuned for additional updates this month as we celebrate a year of growth! #impact
