About us

Philosophical health will be in the 21st century what physical and psychological health were in the 19th and 20th century. At the beginning of the century, it is a luxury for the happy few – by the end of the century, it is a necessity for all. Philosophical health is a state of fruitful coherence between a person’s (or a collective) way of thinking and speaking and their way of acting, such that the possibilities for a sublime life and healing growth are increased and the needs for self-, intersubjective and interspecies flourishing satisfied. Five non-exhaustive principles of philosophical health are mental heroism, deep orientation, critical creativity, deep listening and ultimate possibility. A philosophically healthy individual, group, system or protocol ensures that the goals and purposes of the whole are pragmatically aligned with its highest ideals, while respecting the (re)generative, plural, creal future of the individuals concerned by the processes at stake.

"The world needs (meta)cognitive diversity, an explosion of philosophical colours and a generous palette of ways of doing and thinking." Luis de Miranda elegantly and succinctly carves out an innovative and (re) generative path toward authentic and authoritative deep living as we enter breathtakingly uncharted landscapes in 2025. "Philosophical health is a state of fruitful coherence between a person’s (or a collective) way of thinking and speaking and their way of acting, such that the possibilities for a sublime life and healing growth are increased and the needs for self-intersubjective and interspecies flourishing satisfied. Five non-exhaustive principles of philosophical health are mental heroism, deep orientation, critical creativity, deep listening and ultimate possibility. Business coach, facilitator, mentor as well as restorative (read autonomous and self-correcting) and philosophical practitioner

#philosophical health #philosophical counselling # philosophical practices A first in Finland! I am now certified to offer counselling using the SMILE_PH method (Sense Making Interviews Looking at Elements of Philosophical Health), developed by Luis de Miranda, founder of Philosophical Health International. In my practice, mostly in Finnish (also English and Swedish) language, I combine counselling, coaching, facilitation, and mentoring within restorative and philosophical frameworks. Many of us face health concerns that don't fit neatly into traditional medical categories. Our healthcare institutions sometimes promote standardized, medication-focused paths based on overly mechanical or statistical views of our minds and bodies. If you're experiencing vague symptoms like discouragement or fatigue, you might wonder: Can I handle this with my own knowledge, or should I reach out for help? The conventional medical route would begin with diagnosis and laboratory tests, yet research shows that less than 40% of such cases receive definitive answers in primary care settings. Together, we philosophical practitioners can transform your relationship with yourself and your environment through dialogue, thinking, and practical application — moving from unconscious patterns to intentional action and creating lasting change. As Aristotle wisely noted, "All learning comes about from already existing knowledge.” Let's tap into your inherent wisdom to develop more effective ways of living and being!

  • In this talk, Christian will address the notion of self-transcendence and it’s contribution to meaning in life and personal growth — specifically, with a view on realizing it by means of the SMILE_PH method. In addition, it will also become clearer why the method of SMILE_PH (intended to strengthen the sense of belonging, sense of purpose and philosophy of life) contributes to personal growth and meaning in life.

    Philosophical Counselor | Philosophical Practitioner

✨ Since this week, I am one of the world’s first certified SMILE_PH practitioners.  ✨ And on top of that, I am part of an extraordinary team at Philosophical Health International (learn more on: www.philosophical.health). 🍀 My heartfelt thanks go to Luis de Miranda, the founder of Philosophical Health International and the creator of the SMILE_PH method. 🌊 Being a SMILE_PH practitioner means that I integrate a specially arranged sequence of sense making interviews in my philosophical counselling practice (Philosophische Praxis Dr. Funke). 🌊 In that sequence of interviews, the client and I are looking together at the six elements of philosophical health: The sense of the body, the sense of self, the self of belonging, the sense of the possible, the sense of purpose and the philosophical sense. 🌊 Proceeding from the ruling principle that Thinking Can Be Healing, these interviews can help individuals and communities reshape how they relate to themselves, their futures, and the world. In that process, they may experience an expanded sense of possibility, a deepened awareness of personal agency, and a renewed sense of purpose. 🙌 The idea of philosophical health is based on the assumption that not only our body and our psyche need care, but also our thinking, our values and our view of the world. Often, we focus exclusively on physical health or psychological well-being, but our mind and our worldview also contribute significantly to how we approach life. Philosophical health can thus be understood as a holistic way of life that harmonizes critical thinking, self-reflection and lived values to achieve a deeper and more stable form of well-being. 👉 To learn more about Philosophical Health, check out De Miranda’s books* and visit www.philosophical.health / Philosophical Health International 👓 De Miranda's books on Philosophical Health 1) Philosophical Health. PHILOSOPHICAL HEALTH: "When thinking is Healing." What a great discovery of Luis de Miranda and his work! Like many other books from 2024, his "Philosophical Health" went unnoticed. In this month of February, despite the dark days of winter in our planetary society, it has come to me as early spring. That is a great recommendation! In 1983, Carlos Mallmann told us that our maldevelopment was caused, among other things, by our "poverty of #meaning. Six years ago, John Vervaeke launched an excellent course on his YouTube channel, "Awakening from the Meaning Crisis". Now, Luis de Miranda brings us #PhilosophicalHealth. Whenever I have seen WHO's definition of #Health, "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity", I have always found something missing and always put cultural or spiritual wellbeing to integrate it all. And the concept of philosophical health fits perfectly with the cultural or spiritual that I added. The website Philosophical Health International says: "Philosophical health will be in the 21st century what physical and psychological health were in the 19th and 20th century. At the beginning of the century, it is a luxury for the happy few – by the end of the century, it is a necessity for all. "Philosophical health is a state of fruitful coherence between a person’s (or a collective) way of thinking and speaking and their way of acting, such that the possibilities for a sublime life and healing growth are increased and the needs for self-, intersubjective and interspecies flourishing satisfied." "Five non-exhaustive principles of philosophical health are mental heroism, deep orientation, critical creativity, deep listening and ultimate possibility. A philosophically healthy individual, group, system or protocol ensures that the goals and purposes of the whole are pragmatically aligned with its highest ideals, while respecting the (re)generative, plural, creal future of the individuals concerned by the processes at stake." "Luis de Miranda introduces philosophical health as the art of creating a dynamic balance between six “existential senses”: body, self, belonging, possibility, purpose, and the philosophical sense." These six senses are explained very entertainingly with interesting stories in his book, and on his YouTube channel, he has 6 interesting videos putting them into practice through counselling.

🌟 Deep living: 7 Years of systematic Philosophical Counselling In February 2018, in a little workroom in Stockholm nested in a psychotherapy clinic like a Trojan horse, I embarked on a path as philosophical counsellor, not yet knowing how deeply this calling would transform not only my life but more importantly those of others. What began as individual counselling sessions quickly revealed a fundamental universal truth: the art of helping others think for themselves holds remarkable healing power. The gratitude expressed by those I've counselled has consistently affirmed that philosophical dialogue can illuminate paths to wellness, flourishing, integrity in action and meaningfulness that traditional approaches overlook. In 2019, I founded the Philosophical Health International movement, driven by a vision that philosophical practice could regenerate our approach to personal development and healing. Today, we witness this vision expanding globally, with dedicated and responsible practitioners helping individuals harness the power of creative and practical thinking. Today, my colleagues and I joyfully launch our brand new site, philosophical.health, to help you in your journey toward authentic and authoritative deep living. #PhilosophicalHealth #PersonalDevelopment #Wellness #ProfessionalGrowth #Leadership #Innovation #MentalHealth #Philosophy

I am excited and grateful to announce my certification as a SMILE_PH Method practitioner through Philosophical Health International! What is philosophical health? It's our capacity to align our thoughts, our values, and our actions, creating authenticity. It is learning to navigate life's complexities through critical thinking and the pursuit of wisdom. Unlike conventional "mental health" models which focus on psychological well-being, sickness, and diagnoses, philosophical health addresses our innate ability to think, to make meaning, to understand ourselves in the world, and to develop a coherent worldview that guides our decisions and leads us to a flourishing life. Dr. Luis de Miranda's groundbreaking research on philosophical health has transformed how we approach personal development and life's challenges. His work shows that philosophy is -- and has always been - a vital tool for everyone seeking deeper understanding and authenticity in their lives. The SMILE_PH method (Sense-Making Interviews Looking at Elements of Philosophical Health) offers a structured approach to exploring: - Personal meaning-making processes - Core beliefs and values systems - Life narratives and self-understanding - Philosophical resilience - Authentic self-discovery Healing is thinking. Thinking is healing. Through this certification, I'm equipped to help others strengthen their philosophical health through one-on-one sessions and group workshops. Whether you're facing life transitions, ethical dilemmas, or seeking deeper purpose, philosophical health interviews provide a path to clarity and growth. Ready to explore your philosophical health journey? Let's connect! #PhilosophicalHealth #Philosophy #Coaching #Wisdom #MeaningMaking #PersonalGrowth #PhilosophicalCounseling

Philosophy isn’t just about abstract thought—it’s about living well. For years, I’ve explored how existentialist and philosophical perspectives can offer practical tools for resilience, meaning, and self-mastery. It’s inspiring to see initiatives like Philosophical Health International expanding this vision globally. Deep respect for the work being done here by Luis de Miranda and others in our amazing group of practitioners. Looking forward to seeing how this movement continues to evolve. #PhilosophicalHealth #DeepLiving #PhilosophyForLife

  • Clare Sarah Goodridge will share insights from her doctoral work on Collective Flourishing and explore how the SMILE_PH method integrates with her self-to-collective leadership model. This session will introduce key ideas on developing adaptive capacity, deep relational intelligence, and a commitment to human flourishing as an embedded way of being rather than an output to strive for. Through practical reflections and discussion, Clare will offer a fresh perspective on how leadership can move beyond individual optimization to create environments where both people and systems naturally thrive together. Welcome!
