Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy. Dr. King’s fight against segregation and oppression continues to inspire housers today working to ensure everyone has access to an affordable home and upward mobility. Last summer, we brought winners of our Housing Affordability Breakthrough Challenge to Birmingham, Alabama, where Dr. King penned his iconic “Letter from Birmingham Jail.” Our visit with the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI) underscored why knowing the history of housing injustice is critical to our work for a more equitable future. Every day, we’re inspired by innovators like Breakthrough Challenge winner Build Urban Prosperity (Build UP) as they create the next generation of housing leaders in Birmingham and beyond. The fight for housing justice continues as we seek to ensure that home and community are places of pride, power, and belonging for all. We celebrate #MLKDay today, and strive year-round to emulate Dr. King’s values and perseverance.

Make it green or make it resilient? It’s not an either/or choice: it’s a must-have combination. As Krista Egger shares, Enterprise Green Communities gives affordable housing leaders access to the tools and guidance needed to create homes that are both environmentally sustainable and climate resilient. The result: safer, more energy efficient, and affordable homes for residents in communities nationwide. Learn more about Green Communities and its 20-year track record: https://bit.ly/3Uvhp5U
