🌍 Today, we’re thrilled to launch our new research briefing, #LegacySolutions: Cultural Heritage in Global Climate Action, at COP29 in Baku. What you need to know: 📖 This report explores the dual role of cultural heritage in the climate crisis—both as a vulnerable asset affected by extreme weather and as a source of solutions. It underscores how cultural legacies, through mitigation, adaptation strategies, and traditional ecological knowledge, can help safeguard biodiversity and prepare the global community for the future. 💡 Despite the recognition of traditional knowledge in global climate policy, significant implementation gaps remain. The report highlights the need for data and interdisciplinary approaches, including the role of the arts, to foster new, culturally sensitive climate solutions. 📌 Timely Release: We’re unveiling this briefing on the same day as the 2nd High-Level Ministerial Meeting for Culture-Based Climate Action at COP29. Our goal is to build momentum for a proposal requesting the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies to convene workshops on culture and heritage before their 62nd session in Bonn (2025), with the aim of adopting a decision at COP30 in Belém. 🙏 A special thanks to Zero Carbon Analytics researchers Filipe Ferreira, Nathalie Bolduc, Katherine Findlay, and Jas Lewicki for their invaluable contributions to this briefing as well as Climate Reframe and Suzanne Dhaliwal for her generosity and support. 📖 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/dMUZX_6C
