Caregiving is a demanding role that can take a toll on one's mental health. In fact, a 2020 AARP research report found that nearly 40% of U.S. caregivers experience high levels of stress in their caregiving roles. The challenges are even more pronounced for primary or family caregivers of individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. November is National Family Caregivers Month, a time to raise awareness and increase support for caregivers. If you or someone you know is caring for a loved one, here are some mental health tips to help navigate this challenging journey. https://lnkd.in/gdgwYrWs #NFCM #NationalFamilyCaregiversMonth #familycaregiver #peoplewithdisabilities #caregiversupport #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #selfcaretips

Meet our member Tiffany, who is one of our talented athletes. She participates in multiple Special Olympics sports, including basketball, volleyball, softball and bowling. Most recently, she won gold medals in golf and tennis and even got to light the cauldron at the 56th annual Illinois Special Olympics Spring Games. When she’s not playing sports, Tiffany enjoys reading and writing about life. She was also one of our leaders during last month’s Arts in the Dark parade, which celebrates artists and cultural institutions. We always #EnvisionMore for Tiffany and the rest of our members with intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental illness. To achieve more, we have launched a year-long fundraising campaign with a range of ways for Envision Unlimited friends to contribute and get involved. With more support from friends like you, we #EnvisionMore sports equipment and more opportunities for Tiffany to practice – and therefore more gold medals. Consider making a gift to Envision Unlimited today and stay tuned as we continue to Envision MORE! https://lnkd.in/ePTbwKh #MemberMonday #unlimitedpotential #peoplewithdisabilities #athletespotlight #inclusionmatters #bettertogether

We strive to be innovators in everything we do, so our members can live as independently as possible. This drive has led us to implement cutting-edge technology in many of our programs, including our residential homes. Since 2022, we have opened two remote support homes, which give our members the freedom to receive additional support through a remote monitoring system. The setup makes it possible for our staff to care for more members, and it encourages members to be less reliant on staff. Similarly, we have installed StationMD, another virtual telehealth service, at several of our group homes. Equipped with a blood pressure monitor and thermometers, StationMD can be used for a range of medical questions and even urgent issues. Such technology ensures quality healthcare for our members and allows our older residents to age in place. We will continue to innovate, so we can help our members live their best lives. #EnvisionInAction #innovativecare #independentliving #assistivetechnology #telehealth #remotesupport #aginginplace #qualityhealthcare

Meet our member Ana, who learned how to make pompoms through an Envision Unlimited art therapy intern. She was so inspired by the project that she bought her own pompom makers and yarn to create them at home. But Ana wanted to do more. She wanted to share her new skill with others. With help from our art director and the Back of the Yards public library, she planned a pompom workshop for children in the neighborhood. During the session, she helped a young girl create a blue pompom. When they took it out of the pompom maker, the girl squealed with joy. We always #EnvisionMore for Ana and the rest of our members with intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental illness. To achieve more, we have launched a year-long fundraising campaign with a range of ways for Envision Unlimited friends to contribute and get involved. With more support from friends like you, we #EnvisionMore pompoms and can help Ana lead more workshops and teach her new crafts. Over the summer, USG partnered with Envision Unlimited to donate materials for their project on Chicago’s southwest side. The Envision Dream Home is a pro-bono project designed and constructed solely on donations—from design, construction, and installation to the actual land it’s built upon. USG donated drywall, joint treatment, tile backers, and corner bead to help this dream become a reality. The building will serve as an accessible group home for seniors with intellectual and developmental disabilities, welcoming six residents and providing them with their own spaces. A bit of good news to start your weekend: The Chicago Cubs recently settled a lawsuit with the U.S. Department of Justice and has agreed to make Wrigley Field more accessible for people with disabilities over the next few years. Some of the expected changes will include new wheelchair spaces and seats with improved views of the field; a premium grandstand club with front-row access; and ADA-compliant parking and shuttle services. If you’re experiencing post-election stress, you’re not alone. Political strife is a key factor that has contributed to an increased need for mental health resources in recent years. If you’re struggling to cope, we invite you to learn more about The Envision Unlimited Living Room. This FREE mental health space promotes healthy habits for mental wellness and crisis prevention. We accept anyone, regardless of location, and visitors do not need to have a diagnosed mental illness to receive services. November is National Family Caregivers Month. At Envision Unlimited, we understand that caring for a loved one with a disability is no easy task. That’s why we offer in-home respite services. Our program equips families with a trained individual who can spend time with their loved one. This allows you to catch up on regular daily activities, relaxation, etc. Over the past year, our team has provided nearly 13,000 hours of respite services for families, reducing caregiver burnout and allowing our members to remain at home without needing crisis services or institutionalization. To learn more and discuss eligibility, contact our respite coordinator at 773-899-6177 or respiteinfo@envisionunlimited.org. #EnvisionProud #NFCM #NationalFamilyCaregiversMonth #familycaregivers #respitecare #peoplewithdisabilities #caregiversupport #disabilityawareness #inhomecare

We’re so proud of our members who are exercising their right to vote! At Envision Unlimited, we strongly believe that the voice of people with disabilities is crucial in the democratic process. Some members voted for the first time, some led peer discussions about the candidates and others are braving long lines. Way to go, everyone! ✅ #EnvisionProud #EnvisionInAction #electionday #disabilityrights #votingmatters #civicparticipation #peoplewithdisabilities #nothingaboutuswithoutus
