The 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 (NRF2024), one of the premier 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗶𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 in the Southeastern Mediterranean, took place on 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟰-𝟱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰, 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗮, 𝗖𝘆𝗽𝗿𝘂𝘀, under the auspices of his Excellency the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides. The forum's central theme, "𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆, 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀," provided a critical platform for addressing urgent regional issues on the above mentioned topics. The Center for Security Studies (KEMEA) proudly participated in #NRF2024, showcasing a number of active EU research projects from the Emergency Management & Civil Protection Sector (Head Emmanouil Kermitsis) and the Critical Infrastructure Sector (Head Efstathios Skarlatos). Key projects presented in a Special Breakout Session, chaired by Dr. rer. nat. Nikolaos G. Kalapodis , included SILVANUS Project, Firelogue.eu, DIREKTION project (Horizon Europe), PANTHEON Project, EO4EU, TEMA EU, FirEUrisk Project, DRM FRAME PROJECT, POWERBASE project, and ATLANTIS - Horizon Europe Project. A standout panel session focused on "Wildfires in the Mediterranean Region - International Collaboration for Risk Reduction," moderated by Dr. rer. nat. Nikolaos G. Kalapodis (KEMEA), Dr. Georgios Sakkas (KEMEA), and Manolis Plionis (University of Thessaloniki & Director of National Observatory of Athens). Experts such as Krishna Chandramouli (SILVANUS Project), Danai Kazantzidou-Firtinidou (Firelogue.eu), Dr Klelia Petrou (FirEUrisk), Jeroen Warner (SEMEDFIRE), and Judith Kirschner (PyroLife) shared invaluable insights on managing the increasing threat of wildfires in the Mediterranean. Their discussions emphasized the need for enhanced international cooperation to address the growing intensity and frequency of these fires. The session closed with an insightful speech of Mrs Maria Panayiotou, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Enviroment, Republik of Cyprus.
