“How do we develop interventions that are designed from the very beginning for diverse populations?” Hello. I'm James Banks, a communications intern at the PRC and a film undergraduate at Penn State. Before the PRC’s annual Bennett Lecture, I conducted a video interview with our lecturer, Phillip W. Graham, a principal scientist at the nonprofit research institute RTI International. In this video, Dr. Graham discussed how to develop interventions designed from the beginning for diverse populations and why prevention science is important to him. The SFP 10-14 Recertification Training is a 1-day, virtual training for certified program facilitators to hone their skills and learn more about the program. SFP 10-14 facilitators must be re-certified every three (3) years. This training will be held from 8am-5pm on Tues. September 10th, 2024 via Zoom. Our Lead Evaluation and Research Strategist, Dr. Jochebed Gayles, just published a paper on technical assistance (TA) strategies. The initial findings in this study provide "insights into the implications of intervention characteristics in determining how much of which TA strategies are needed to support implementations in real-world settings." Our EPIS team delivers quality technical assistance to community prevention coalitions throughout Pennsylvania. They support coalitions in choosing, implementing, and sustaining evidence-based programs that help youth minimize risks and engage in healthy behaviors that benefit them, their families, and their communities. Jochebed Gayles, Ph.D. is lead author of a paper published in a special issue of Evaluation & the Health Professions describing the types of technical assistance given to coalitions. Using data spanning six years, they analyzed over 10,000 encounters between TA providers and implementers. Content analysis yielded four distinct strategies: Consultation (27.2%), Coordination Logistics (24.5%), Monitoring (16.5%), and Resource Delivery (28.2%). Their findings can inform future research into what kinds of technical assistance are the most beneficial and under which conditions.
