  • Embracing Change: A Balanced Perspective "The main dangers in this life are the people who want to change everything or nothing." — Lady Nancy Astor Extreme revolutionaries want to change everything. They see nothing of value worth preserving. Extreme conservatives resist change of any kind. They believe that things are just the way they should be.  Neither extreme is realistic or productive. It’s impossible to freeze the world exactly as it is for any length of time. And even if we could prevent change, the result would be stifling. On the other hand, as much as we might want to change everything about our lives and start fresh, we would still be who we are—flaws and all. Better to look for those things in our life that are worth preserving and to build on them.  Change is always happening, and I can embrace it rather than resist or ignore it.

  • Intention "Others have seen what is and asked why. I have seen what could be and asked why not." — Robert F. Kennedy The first step to accomplishing any task is believing that we can. This belief forms the foundation for action. Once we embrace it, we can determine what needs to be done to achieve our goals. However, believing in our abilities is often easier said than done. We may encounter internal doubts or external voices that discourage us, insisting we cannot or should not attempt certain tasks. If we allow these voices to dominate, we fail before we even begin. I choose to believe in my ability to accomplish what needs to be done. No matter the challenges or the doubts, I will find a way forward and take action.

  • A Lifetime "How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these." – George Washington Carver As we navigate through life, we often reflect on how our understanding and interactions could have been better at different stages. When we are young, we might overlook the wisdom and needs of our elders. As adults, the memory of being a child can fade, making it harder to relate to the thoughts and actions of youth. Success can also narrow our perspective. Once we achieve mastery in a skill or overcome life’s hardships, it is easy to lose sight of the struggles others are still enduring. We may become less patient with those learning or navigating challenges we’ve surpassed.

  • “We are all something, but none of us are everything.” Blaise Pascal Perspective Do we think too much of ourselves – or too little? We may have tendencies towards one end of the spectrum or the other. Or we may go back and forth between two extremes, convinced of our importance one day and our insignificance the next. We all have a place in the world that is significant; we all matter. The trick is not to think that we matter more than anyone else in the world. I can be happy with my place in the world, without distorting it one way or another. Check out last week's Friday blog to gain some perspective to help you evaluate, equip, and empower your team to drive growth and achieve your business goals.: https://hubs.la/Q02Rj9xl0
