About us
The city's centralized equity office has expanded to take on citywide racial equity planning. The Mayor’s Office of Equity & Racial Justice — established as the city’s Racial Equity Office — will lead implementation of these measures and start by producing the city’s first citywide racial equity plan. The office will work closely with the Commission on Racial Equity, an independent commission charged with engaging New Yorkers, to ensure community voice and racial equity priorities shape the city’s plan.

Tonight, the city will light up orange to raise awareness about ending gender-based violence (GBV). While it’s a difficult topic to discuss, the reality is that GBV disproportionately impacts women and gender-expansive people. GBV encompasses a wide range of abuses, including intimate partner and family violence, elder abuse, sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking. For more information and resources, visit nyc.gov/16Days. #GoOrangeDay #NYCAgainstGBV #OrangeTheWorld

#ICYMI, This past Wednesday New York City's municipal buildings lit up to recognize Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day dedicated to honoring the lives lost to anti-trans violence. Annually, this important day serves as a powerful reminder of the need to recognize the humanity of trans individuals, not just today, but every day of the year. This is a moment to stand in solidarity, mourn, and commit to fostering a world of love, acceptance, and justice for all transgender and gender-diverse individuals. The NYC Unity Project, part of the Mayor's Office of Equity & Racial Justice, is committed to supporting the transgender community through an ongoing NYC Unity Grants grant initiative. This funding helps organizations provide vital services to this often underserved group, fostering inclusion and equity.
