About us
Welcome to the LinkedIN page of the Sociology of Emotions Research Network (RN11) in the European Sociological Association! The sociology of emotions is a vital field within the broad discipline of sociology that has a lineage encompassing the classical tradition as well as more recent sociological research and scholarship. Research on emotions contributes to political sociology, medical sociology, sociology of social movements, sociology of gender, economic, social psychology and other specialties within sociology. The Sociology of Emotions Research Network brings together researchers with an interest in emotions who share a range of substantive research themes and draw upon diverse methodologies. The ESA Sociology of Emotions Research Network was formed in May 2004 and is steadily expanding in terms of members, planned and ongoing joint publications and research activities.

❗ New publication in the field by Kate Rossmanith Sharyn Roach Anleu Katie Barclay. This article takes stock of methodologies, methods and data that seek to account for emotion in legal contexts. It aims to identify how law and emotion researchers are doing what they are doing, and to what ends, and seeks to distinguish ‘emotions’ in law and emotions research. https://lnkd.in/dZEMFbsD

‼️📌 New publication in the field: Law, Emotions, VIS and much more. Alice Bosma
Last year I had the privilege of attending a wonderful symposium at Nasby Slott, Sweden. An inspiring place with lots of 'Fika' (everyone who knows me just a little knows how fond I am of pies, tortes, cookies etc). Also, I got to present a paper about a topic that I keep coming back to: emotional narratives in the form of a Victim Impact Statement. I got the opportunity to develop the paper and now it is published open access - you can read my paper as well as the other wonderful papers that were part of the same symposium here: Paper: https://lnkd.in/eyKKgZhE Special issue: https://lnkd.in/e27YRyBd A warm thanks to Stina Bergman Blix and the Just Emotions project for the symposium, and also to Sharyn Roach Anleu, Mojca M. Plesničar and Louise Victoria Johansen for organising this special issue! I also want to thank the Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek- en Datacentrum (WODC) for sharing data on the Dutch VIS (spreekrecht) for this purpose. Data was originally gathered by a wonderful research team - see the report by Marleen Kragting et al: https://lnkd.in/egxHv7q3 I'm sure this wasn't my last paper on the VIS and law & emotions. I sure hope I get to have as much Fika for the next!

‼️📌New publication in the field! Emotions, legal decision making, GenAI and predictive justice.
I am happy to share our latest article, in which we use illustrations from real criminal cases in Italian courts and prosecution offices to show misalignments between the functions of AI systems (predictive and GenAI) and the essential features of legal decision-making and identify possible legitimate usages. #emotions #legaldecisions #chatgpt #AI #predictivejustice #humanjustice
