International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women - The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was established on the assumption that violence against women is a violation of human rights. This violation is a consequence of discrimination against women, which exacerbates gender inequalities. The date of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women also marks the beginning of the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence” preceding World Human Rights Day celebrated on December 10 each year, precisely to emphasize that violence against women is a violation of human rights. #ETHICAREI 

Today, at the Sala Capitolare in Piazza della Minerva, the last appointment of the cycle ‘𝐄𝐒𝐆 𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐞’, promoted by the Severino Foundation, was held, dedicated to the theme: ‘𝐒𝐦𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐚, 𝐄𝐒𝐆 𝐞 𝐥𝐞 𝐧𝐮𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐞 (𝐂𝐒𝐑𝐃, 𝐂𝐒𝐃𝐃): 𝐬𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐚̀’. The event explored the role of social sustainability in prisons, emphasising inclusion and social responsibility, to imagine a future in which the prison system actively contributes to collective well-being. The third meeting of “ESG and Prison-when the State, Business and the Third Sector meet,” promoted by Senator Mariastella Gelmini and supported by the Severino Foundation, Ethicarei and Bee4-also took place in Rome. Out of 61,000 inmates in Italian prisons, it was recalled, there are only 17,000 workers, just 15 percent of whom work outside penitentiary institutions. “It's a small minority,” Gelmini stressed, ”but fostering the work of inmates, which is essential to decrease recidivism among those who have finished serving their sentences, is possible with a great alliance between the state, associations and businesses. Good practices exist, but they need to be known and expanded.” #ETHICAREIeducation

'“Fashion is an education in beauty,” said Caterina Micolano, standing in the unbeautiful gray confines of the Bollate prison on the outskirts of Milan. The president of the Cooperativa Alice, Ms. Micolano oversees the organization’s sewing workshops that train prison inmates and former prisoners in Italian sartorial craft. “The ‘Made in Italy’ method teaches you that to achieve beauty, you have to master a system of specific techniques,” she said, “to follow certain rules.” For the trainees, those rules can be a pathway to a degree of emancipation, even while they are still incarcerated, and to a career in a fashion industry desperately short of skilled artisans.'
