EU Enough Project
Research
A European Food Supply Chain to Reduce GHG Emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
About us
The ENOUGH project has set objectives to address and reduce the emissions of the food sector as food systems are globally responsible for 20 to almost 40 % of total greenhouse gas emissions. The project will provide tools and methods to contribute to the EU Farm to Fork strategy to achieve climate neutral food businesses.

🌍🔋 Revolutionising Dairy Production with Smart Energy Solutions! 🥛♻️ As part of the ENOUGH project, researchers from SINTEF Ocean AS recently visited Rørosmeieriet, Norway’s largest organic dairy, to optimise its heating and cooling systems. Traditionally, dairies rely on separate energy-intensive systems for these needs, but integrating high-temperature heat pumps and thermal energy storage is paving the way for a more efficient, sustainable future. ✅ Key innovations at Rørosmeieriet: 🔹 Energy monitoring to track heating and cooling demand 🔹 CO₂ heat pumps to optimise hot water and cooling supply 🔹 Thermal energy storage to balance fluctuations and reduce peak loads 🔹 Phase-change materials (PCM) for compact and efficient cold storage This approach reduces energy costs, cuts emissions, and enhances overall efficiency, setting a new benchmark for sustainable dairy production. 📽️ Watch the video to see the project in action! 👇 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d-XVjSWH 📖 Read more about this demonstrator here: 🔗 Full article: https://lnkd.in/d3P4MheT #SustainableCooling #EnergyEfficiency #FoodIndustry #NetZero #HeatPumps #ENOUGHproject

This week we had a kick-off meeting with a tour of Trondheim Municipality's production kitchen together with the unit manager Tony Andersen and his committed colleagues including Linda Thorsteinsen. It could not have been a better time to start this project as the consultation process for the new proposed law on the prevention and reduction of food waste is currently ongoing. Trondheim Municipality's production kitchen is one of the biggest kitchens in Norway and producing 2,500 portions of meals daily that are further distributed to both municipal and private institutions, nursing homes, schools, after-school care and kindergartens. It was inspiring to see the many positive measures they have already implemented, and we look forward to helping spread their good practices to others through the Food loss and waste demo in the EU project ENOUGH. In the coming months we will work on: - Using digital weighing equipment to obtain data and knowledge - Conduct waste analysis - Estimate the environmental impact associated with food loss and waste - Identify new measures for waste reduction in addition to those already in place SINTEF Ocean Trondheim kommune Linda Connie Thorsteinsen Shraddha Mehta Kristina Widell Tony Andersen Ana Carvajal Cansu Birgen Henriette Louise Krogness #enoughemissions #FLW

👇 Check out this video from our Norwegian dairy demonstrator Rørosmeieriet to learn more about how the ENOUGH project improves energy efficiency in dairy production!
🌱 Driving Energy Efficiency in Dairy Production 🌱 Excited to share insights from a case study where our researchers have been working with a dairy to enhance their energy efficiency and sustainability efforts. 💡 Project Goal: Reducing energy consumption and flexibility. Dairy production is highly energy-intensive, especially in heating and cooling stages. By carefully monitoring and analysing energy usage, we aimed to identify key areas where sustainable technologies could make a big impact. 🔍 Key Steps Taken: 1. Energy Monitoring: Implemented advanced metering to track energy usage across various systems and identify inefficiencies. 2. Thermal Energy Storage (TES) Assessment: Evaluated the potential of TES systems to support the energy system in high demand times. Thereby, we can meet peak energy demands, increase energy efficiency and reduce costs! 3. High-Temperature Heat Pump Feasibility: Investigated integrating a high-temperature heat pump to increase energy efficiency. This will reduce energy consumption and operating costs! 🌍 The Impact: This project paves the way for substantial cost savings, lower carbon emissions, and a more resilient energy profile for dairies. We’re excited to take these insights forward and continue innovating sustainable practices within the food and feed sector.
