New study on the safety of mRNA vaccines in autoimmune liver diseases New insights for people with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) or primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC): a new study shows that mRNA vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 do not cause a short-term worsening of autoimmunity in these patients. 📌 The study, conducted by EUROIMMUN in collaboration with Swiss researchers, investigated the development of autoantibodies before and after vaccination. The result? While autoantibodies were detectable more frequently, they also frequently disappeared - and the clinical disease did not worsen. 👉 No increased risk of new autoimmune diseases 👉 No significant negative effects on the course of the disease 👉 SARS-CoV-2 vaccination suitable also in patients with autoimmune liver disorders These results give those affected more certainty in their decision to get vaccinated! Nach einem Abstecher an unseren Standort in Lübeck, gab es eine Führung durch das Werk in Dassow. Dabei haben die Schüler:innen nicht nur den Mikroskopierraum unserer Qualitätskontrolle kennengelernt, sondern zudem selbstständig ein Testsystem pipettiert. Es war ein großartiger Tag und wir haben uns sehr gefreut, der neuen Generation von Laborant:innen einen Einblick in unsere Labore geben zu dürfen!

HPV also affects men - an underestimated risk! 🎗️ Every year, almost 2,900 men in Germany are diagnosed with HPV-related cancer, e.g. in the oropharyngeal or anogenital area. Many people don't know that HPV is sexually transmitted and can also lead to serious tumors in men - often with life-threatening consequences. The good news: these cancers are preventable! The HPV vaccination provides reliable protection - but so far only around a third of 15-year-old boys in Germany have been fully vaccinated, with alarming regional differences in the actual vaccination rate. HPV is not just a women's issue - protect yourself and your loved ones! Vaccination is safe, effective and can save lifes. Get vaccinated - preferably between the ages of 9 and 14, but it’s better late than never. 🔬 Serum uromodulin: a promising biomarker for AKI in COVID-19! A recent study by EUROIMMUN, St. Georg Hospital Leipzig and other research institutions shows that serum uromodulin (sUmod) could be a key marker for acute kidney injury (AKI) in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. 🚨 Why is this important? AKI is a common and life-threatening complication of COVID-19. Conventional biomarkers such as creatinine and cystatin C are often inaccurate - sUmod, on the other hand, is a specific and sensitive marker as it correlates directly with kidney function. 📊 Results of the study: 👉40% of hospitalized COVID-19 patients experienced AKI. 👉Patients with AKI had significantly lower sUmod values than those without AKI. 👉Low sUmod levels were associated with higher in-hospital mortality. These findings underline the importance of early AKI diagnosis and open up new perspectives for improved patient care! IFA diagnostics rethought – enhanced with AI! 🔬✨ The indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) is an essential method in autoimmune diagnostics - but traditional manual evaluation is time-consuming and subject to variability. Time for innovation! The EUROPattern Classifier uses deep convolutional neural networks, a part of artificial intelligence, to reliably analyse autoantibody IFA patterns. The software generates accurate result proposals and helps to increase standardisation & efficiency in diagnostics. Highlights: The AI-enhanced evaluation software provides accurate classification of autoantibody patterns The software has been trained during development using deep learning processes to recognize specific IFA patterns and apply this knowledge to new data The software is already established for a large number of cell substrates and has recently been extended to complex tissue substrates. The EUROPattern Classifier offers automated result proposals from images captured with the all-in-one IFA instrument UNIQO 160 as well as from the automated microscopes EUROPattern and EUROPattern Microscope Live.
