  • As we reflect on Dr. King's legacy of fighting for equality and justice, I'm reminded that the journey toward true inclusion is ongoing and multifaceted. When we discuss Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), conversations often center around race and gender—crucial dimensions that absolutely deserve our attention and action. However, as a vocational therapist, I've observed that disability inclusion frequently remains in the shadows of these discussions. Here's a perspective that transformed my understanding: disability isn't just about "other people"—it's about all of us. Whether through aging, illness, injury, or circumstance, disability will touch every one of our lives at some point. It's not a matter of if, but when. This universal truth should reshape how we approach workplace inclusion: • The ramp we build today for a colleague who uses a wheelchair will serve the employee who temporarily needs crutches tomorrow • The flexible work arrangements we create for neurodivergent team members benefit parents managing childcare and employees caring for elderly parents • The accessible technology we implement helps both visually impaired staff and those experiencing age-related vision changes Dr. King spoke of creating a world where everyone has access to opportunity. In the workplace, this means designing environments and systems that accommodate all forms of human diversity—visible and invisible, permanent and temporary. As we honor his vision, let's expand our understanding of DEI to explicitly include disability. Because true inclusion isn't just about accepting differences—it's about preparing for the human experience we all share. What steps is your organization taking to create a more accessible and inclusive workplace for everyone? #DEI #Accessibility #DisabilityInclusion #WorkplaceInclusion #MLKLegacy #VocationalTherapy #InclusiveDesign #UniversalDesign #ProfessionalDevelopment #WorkplaceCulture

  • As we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy today, I'm reflecting on how his vision of justice and dignity extends to our work in neurodiversity-affirming vocational therapy. Dr. King spoke of a world where all individuals could realize their full potential – this resonates deeply with our mission to create truly inclusive workplaces. In my practice, I witness daily how systemic barriers intersect to affect neurodivergent individuals, particularly those from marginalized communities. Dr. King's teachings remind us that accessibility and acceptance aren't just workplace accommodations – they're fundamental civil rights. His words "Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly" challenge us to recognize how neurodiversity, racial justice, and economic opportunity are interconnected. When we embrace and support diverse thinking styles and lived experiences, we create stronger, more innovative, and more equitable workplaces for everyone. Today, I recommit to: - Advocating for workplace policies that recognize intersectional identities - Supporting neurodivergent individuals in finding meaningful employment that values their unique strengths - Educating employers about creating truly inclusive environments where different ways of thinking and being are celebrated - Amplifying the voices of neurodivergent individuals from historically marginalized communities Dr. King's dream included economic justice and dignity in work. Let's honor his legacy by continuing to build workplaces where every individual can thrive, contribute, and be valued for who they are. #MLKDay #Neurodiversity #VocationalTherapy #Inclusion #WorkplaceEquity #OccupationalJustice

  • What if the way we talk about neurodivergence could change the way the world interacts with neurodivergent minds?  It all starts with a mindset shift—rethinking how we approach, engage, and support neurodivergent individuals in every space. Whether it’s in workplaces, education, or relationships, these small shifts can create big impact!
