#Collegeadmissions is a funnel. At this time of year, you'll see lots of press releases and fancy graphics touting application totals. Pay no attention. What really matters is the students who actually enroll. A few notes and recs on understanding this. 1. Parents: Application counts DO NOT equal admits or enrolls-- and importantly, since most schools "count differently," i.e. app count is not apples: apples or even apples to other fruit in some cases, please do not equate app count to quality. What is far more important is WHO is on campus. WHO will your student be surrounded by in class and in the residence hall. NOT HOW MANY applied or were admitted, etc. Sure, presidents and boards and people who make money from selling clicks or anxiety love to focus on this metric, but ultimately it is irrelevant. 2. Faculty: Number of applicants admitted DOES NOT equate to number students in the new class. On campuses folks outside enrollment often get panicked when they see thousands of admits beyond the class goal. That's right, folks, not every student admitted chooses to attend (yield)- so you naturally have to admit far more students than you have spaces available. Slow your roll. 3. Students: Admit percentage DOES NOT equate to quality. Please don't make choose a college based on their admit rate. That's just dumb. Remember the whole fruit thing... yea, it's a thing. Since some schools have an ED problem, and disproportionately fill their class with 1:1 admit to yield via a binding process, of course their admit rate is driven down. That doesn't make them a better school-- it just means they use different math. Merry Christmas and all of that.

Do you work with high school seniors with disabilities who are currently receiving college acceptances? It’s a good idea for them to review each college's DS site to see what they offer (and don’t) and check for other sources of academic support on campus. I demonstrate how to do that in this video. #CollegeSearch #CollegeAccess #DyslexiaParent #ADHDparent #LearningDisabilitiesParent
