February is Low Vision Awareness Month. Millions of people in the United States are living with a visual impairment. A visual impairment can make it hard to do everyday activities, like getting around, reading, or cooking. And it can’t be fixed with glasses, contacts, or other standard treatments, like medicine or surgery. Some professions require excellent visual acuity, which is why it's imperative to have your eyes checked once a year to ensure you're keeping yourself and your coworkers safe. If you haven't scheduled your annual eye appointment yet, consider doing so this month!

We love this shoutout! Tim, Dave, and everyone on the Exceed Safety team feel passionately about creating engaging safety programs to protect your team. We love safety and we're here to help you implement in a way that works for you!
I had the privilege to spend time in Buckhead yesterday with the Georgia chapter of the American Concrete Institute, where we came together to learn about current best practices in safety management. Lunch was delicious and Tim Neubauer MS, CSP did an excellent job in his presentation! It’s always encouraging to see leaders in our industry spending time learning about how to better protect and engage their team members. Be sure to check out Exceed Safety to learn more about Tim’s consultancy, and how his team can guide you in implementing and maintaining a proven safety program!

Today is National Leadership Day! Safety leaders sometimes get a bad rap - no one wants to be the "safety police". A great safety leader’s approach can make all the difference between the negative stigma or helping everyone feel like they’re on the same safety team together. Here are 5 tips to be an effective safety leader: ✔️Set the standard in person: Supervisors should always model safe behavior rather then simply telling people what to do. ✔️Advocate for workers: Ask for feedback on safety conditions from workers and follow through with their suggestions. ✔️Accountability = credibility: Everyone onsite should be held responsible for upholding safety protocols, even leadership. ✔️Recognize safety high performers: Catch someone "doing it right" and give them kudos right then and there! The positive feedback loop will energize workers to continue to improve in their safety efforts. ✔️Clear communication is key: As with most things, clearly communication expectations and changes is critical to keeping everyone safe onsite. What other attributes do you think make an effective safety leader? Sound off in the comments below!
