We’re excited to announce our $33M Series A to build a new class of microprocessor for advanced cryptography, the Verifiable Processing Unit (VPU). Working closely with cryptographers and developers, we're eliminating the fundamental tradeoff between technological advancement and privacy. This is possible with advanced cryptography including zero-knowledge proofs (#ZKPs), fully homomorphic encryption (#FHE), and post-quantum cryptography (#PQC). These are primitives for systems that can secure and verify entire programs, networks, and computations – not just individual pieces of data The challenge? There has never been a computing system powerful enough to run these algorithms at scale. Until now. The VPU is a novel silicon design with a custom instruction set architecture (ISA) optimized for big integer prime field math. By focusing directly on the operations fundamental to all cryptographic algorithms, we can achieve breakthrough performance without sacrificing the fine-tuning cryptographers and developers need. Fabric announced $33M in Series A funding from Blockchain Capital and 1kx, with participation from Inflection, Protocol Labs, and strategic investments from Offchain Labs, Polygon Labs, and Matter Labs. This follows $6M Seed capital from Metaplanet, Inflection, Schox Patent Group, Liquid2 Ventures, and more. We’re grateful for the support of industry leaders, including Daniel Lubarov, Illia Polosukhin, Sreeram Kannan, Sandeep Nailwal, Ben Fisch, Robert Drost, Ph.D., Joe Andrews, Rand Hindi, Sandy Peng, Nazar Khan, Jamie McAvity, Daniel Shorr, Ben Fielding and many others. The support from our board directors Chang Herbert, Wei Dai, and Yuan Han Li has been especially invaluable. This is just the beginning. We are a team of 60+ hardware/software engineers and cryptographers from pioneering teams at Google, Nvidia, Apple, Intel, Microsoft, Amazon, and Galois, among others. This wouldn’t be possible without our amazing leadership including Michael Gao, Tina Ju, sagar reddy, Gilbert Hendry, Ray Clancy, Yuri Bukhan, Frederick Rush, Brian Arnold, Peter Vigil, Thomas De Cnudde, Sean H., and Abraham Penuelas. Our collective experience in building the AI hardware and security infrastructure of today drives design for the cryptography hardware of tomorrow.
