We strengthen the safety and well-being of children, individuals, and families.

About us

Mission: Family & Children Services "supports, strengthens and preserves the safety, well-being and dignity of children, individuals and families." For over 114 years Family & Children Services has been the voice of concern and compassion for our most vulnerable citizens. A 24-member Board of Directors and staff of 200 take the Agency's mission very personally and commit every day to being a 'Source of Hope' to those we serve. Family & Children Services responds to each community's changing human service needs and invites community members to join us through donation and volunteer service. The Agency offers a continuum of child welfare, behavioral health and crisis services as one organization - board, staff and foster parents - with a unity of purpose. All services are strength-based and client-centered, supporting individuals and families as they create health changes in their lives. Best practice human service delivery is Family & Children Services' strong signature in the community!

  • Last week our friends at Urban Alliance helped us complete our Valentine’s Day gifts to donors. Thanks to their hard work, our flowerpots were finished in record time and looked just as we hoped! We are so grateful for our community partners like Urban Alliance who are always so willing to help wherever and whenever it’s needed.

  • Protective Factors are the factors that mitigate or eliminate risk and promote resilience in families. The more Protective Factors a family has, the lower the risk of child abuse and neglect. One of those Protective Factors is social connections. The more social connections a family has, the better they can weather many storms. Our social connections provide emotional support, practical assistance, and a sense of belonging. Today we celebrate Galentine’s Day, a day devoted to the social connections that make our lives easier and give us a sense of belonging. We hope you feel supported by your community today and every day!

  • This month we join the rest of Michigan in celebrating Muslim American Heritage Month! We understand the many ways Muslim Americans positively affect our community, state, and beyond. Whether their impact is felt in industry, in art, in sports, in innovation, or in simply compassionate neighborliness, we are lucky to have such a large and diverse Muslim American population in our state.

  • Governor Whitmer has proclaimed January 2025 as Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Month in Michigan – a time dedicated to understanding and addressing the social, economic, and environmental factors that impact our health. From housing stability and food security to employment and community safety, SDOH profoundly shapes our well-being. This month, join Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), health organizations, community groups, policymakers, and community members in efforts to create a healthier, more equitable Michigan. At Family & Children Services, we understand the intersectionality of health impacts, and are committed to opening access to resources for our community.

  • This year we had more volunteers than ever join us for the holiday season. Whether it was unpacking and organizing the pantry, helping load and unload gifts, decorating the gym, or stuffing envelopes, our work couldn’t not have been possible without them. Thank you to everyone who donated their precious time on behalf of our clients. We appreciate you!
