Our Chair Emma Mosey spoke to Farmers Guardian about the implications of the budget on small farming businesses 🚜 She says, "I have looked into the eyes of very worried members over the past few weeks, owners who are working the floors of their restaurants, baking bread and pies in the early hours of the morning.  If these people are not working people, who have built businesses from the ground up, I am not sure who is.    We all know that we need to dig deep to sort out the public finances. No one is doubting that it is necessary or important to see our country prosper.  What concerns me is that implementing all these changes at once, shouldering ‘business' with the burden as if it is a bottomless pit of ‘private money', is a recipe for disaster. Small businesses simply cannot stomach it, and many will close their doors. What happens to our communities then?" OPEN LETTER TO THE CHANCELLOR We are one of thirty two Trade Associations, representing more than 160,000 UK family-owned businesses and farms, who have written to the Chancellor calling for a full and formal consultation on the changes to Inheritance Tax announced in the budget. In an open letter, led by Family Business UK, the Trade Associations warn than changes to Business Property Relief (BPR) and Agricultural Property Relief (APR) will starve their members and the economy of investment, leading to forced, premature business sales and result in job losses right across the country. #budget #farming #food #farmretail #ukbusiness
