As 2025 approaches, we can’t help but think back on another incredible year at Farmer Foodshare. Whether you’ve cheered us on, shared our mission, or supported us financially, you’ve been at the heart of every milestone we’ve celebrated in 2024. Thanks to you, we've been able to source and distribute MORE NC-grown food, support MORE farmers in our region, and ensure EVEN MORE families have access to fresh, local food. To show the difference your support makes, we’ve highlighted a few major impacts here that we’ve reached together in 2024. We've had many other wins this year, which we're excited to share in the coming months. These accomplishments are what our team is most proud of—and they wouldn’t have been possible without you. Say hello to our new trucks! You may have caught sight of one of our new trucks parked out front of our Food Hub, driving around town on a delivery route, or making a cameo appearance in recent social media posts. At our Fall Reception in October, we had the pleasure of officially revealing our new fleet of delivery vehicles, freshly wrapped with colorful decals of the fruits and vegetables our local farmers grow throughout our foodshed. We shared a toast with our funders, whose generosity made this major infrastructural update possible. Good equipment and visibility are invaluable to our mission, and we are thrilled to be on the road with our new trucks and sprinter vans. We are wholeheartedly grateful to Tobacco Trust Fund Commission, The Golden LEAF Foundation, WellCare of North Carolina, AgSouth Farm Credit, NC Cooperative Extension of Wake County, and The Cannon Foundation who fund economic, health, and agricultural development projects throughout North Carolina. Their sponsorship will set us up for success in the long run as we support local farmers and make fresh, local food accessible for all. Keep an eye out for us when you’re on the road! . . . . . . . . #friendsofthefoodshare #localfoodaggregator #freshlocalfoodforall #thankyousponsors #sponsors

Meet our board members! Fred became a fan and supporter of Farmer Foodshare during the Covid experience while managing a drive-thru testing site in East Durham. Farmer Foodshare coordinated with Fred, the placement of substantial food boxes in the trunk of each car. Fred is an Assistant Professor in Duke University School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. He received his MBA from Babcock Graduate School of Management, Wake Forest University and his BA from Loyola University Maryland. Fred has served on numerous Non-Profit Boards, most recently a founding Board member of DataWorks NC and completed three years with Green Rural Redevelopment Organization, Inc., Henderson NC. When we aren’t picking up veggies from local farmers, packing produce boxes in the Food Hub, or cooking up trouble at the office, we’re all over the place sharing about our work. We love the opportunity to learn, connect with our community, and be a part of what’s going on in the food system in the Triangle and beyond. Here’s some things we’ve been up to this fall! 1. Sampling Deal Orchards' EcoCertified apples at the Weaver Street Market Co-op Fair 2. Meeting students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Farm Stands event with Carolina Dining Services 3. Our team of staff who attended this year's Carolina Farm Stewardship Association conference 4. A delicious dinner with our food hub, farmer, and community partner friends at It's a Southern Thing 5. Seeing sweet friends and making new ones at the Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties Community Fair 6. Our Board Chair, Kendall, and Development Director, Hillary, at Pasta With a Purpose hosted by The Carolina Club We’re so grateful for all the folks that make our days so full. See y'all around! . . . . . . #community #onthetown #foodsystem #friendsofthefoodshare #welocalocal

Prioritizing small and historically marginalized producers is a value Farmer Foodshare has in common with many other organizations. Thanks to the growing efforts of local groups, support for NC farmers is present throughout the Triangle. The Black Farmers' Market The Black Farmers’ Market is led by a vision to foster intentional spending within black communities, build and expand self-sustaining black marketplaces, and help solve black social and economic issues. The Black Farmers’ Market hosts weekly events alternating between Durham and Raleigh, which increase awareness, facilitate wholesale opportunities, and help fund new projects for Black entrepreneurs in the area. The market has generated incredible support for independent, Black-owned businesses while providing access to healthy food in areas lacking access. Farmer Foodshare has been fortunate to work alongside the Black Farmers’ Market on several projects. We serve as the fiscal agent for the Double Bucks program which matches benefits like SNAP at farmers markets, double the purchasing power of families experiencing food insecurity. The program supports growers and attendees alike, making farmers markets more accessible to a wider community base. The Black Farmers’ Market is one of 5 area farmers markets participating in the Double Bucks program. Last year, the program generated $150,000 for farm businesses, supporting 150 local farmers and totaling 90,000 lbs. of food to fight hunger. The Black Farmers Market and Farmer Foodshare also collaborate on a mini grant program which supports local farmers looking to grow their operations, reach, and programming. Three local farmers received funding last year for projects that will help them better serve their communities. BFM's next market is this weekend! Earlier this month, we made our first delivery to Bon Appétit Management Company at Duke University - The Fuqua School of Business. Our truck was loaded up with Bibb lettuce, bell peppers, organic Yukon gold potatoes, zucchini, sweet potatoes, organic Lacinato kale, and grape tomatoes – all local ingredients Chef Chris Buzzelli used to prepare a delicious meal for the Board of Trustees later in the week. Board members got to hear about the food on their plates, where it was sourced, and the farmers who grew it. We love putting NC-grown food on the table and are happy to know Duke students can enjoy fresh, local produce on campus. We love supplying fresh, local food to restaurants, schools, community organizations, and institutions all over the Triangle. If you are a business looking to partner with a community-focused organization to source local ingredients, sign up for our bi-weekly availability emails to see what’s in season. 🤝 13 volunteers 📦 373 food boxes for 4 community distribution partners 🥕 thousands of pounds of fresh, seasonal, locally grown produce We had quite the day at the Food Hub this morning! Our volunteers – both regular and new – helped pack so much good food for our community…a few brave folks even folded boxes in the rain 🥲 A box pack this size would normally take our food hub staff a good while to assemble, but this team knocked it out. Y’all rock! Anyone can join us for a pack day, Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am-1pm.
