"...when line speeds get pushed faster and faster, inspectors are forced to make less thorough reviews." Trump 1.0's deregulation of slaughterhouses created the conditions for more foodborne illness in the years since: https://lnkd.in/eHNNphKv

Fighting for a food system that centers communities, workers & the environment — NOT corporations.
About us
FarmSTAND fights back against the corporations that dominate all aspects of our food system — exploiting animals and the environment, as well as workers and consumers, especially people of color. We work in courtrooms and communities to transform the food system while holding corporations and government leaders accountable. Our network of attorneys and legal partners has filed dozens of cases across every movement sector and area of law, securing important victories. By winning cases, partnering with communities, and holding corporations accountable, we can create a food system that works for people and the planet. Throughout 2024, we warned that we can’t trust the industry that voluntarily creates the conditions for the spread of disease to voluntarily find the solution. We need a new food system that works for the health of everyone. https://lnkd.in/dkZiFtnj

Every day, we are building the food system we want to see — a system run by the people, for the people, not one dominated by a handful of powerful corporations. This year, FarmSTAND secured some big wins in court and filed a slew of new lawsuits on behalf of workers, consumers, and independent producers of food that challenge the Big Ag status quo. Your end-of-year donation to FarmSTAND will help us build a better food system in the new year and beyond: https://lnkd.in/e6AUYt4S

"By pushing for faster line speeds and reduced inspections, Trump clearly aligned his first administration with the corporate meatpacking giants that benefit from higher production rates, while showing little regard for the welfare of workers, consumers, and animals." In her look back at Trump’s pro-industry approach to federal oversight of slaughterhouses, FarmSTAND Staff Attorney Holly Bainbridge gives us an idea of what’s to come over the next four years, and what FarmSTAND is prepared to do about it. https://lnkd.in/eHNNphKv

It was our first full year as the only legal organization in the country dedicated solely to taking on the corporate, industrial animal agriculture system. We hit the ground running. https://lnkd.in/eQ-Z4JUs

It is an open secret that our food system feeds off the labor of undocumented workers and other vulnerable immigrants. It’s estimated that undocumented workers make up anywhere from 30-50 percent of the meatpacking workforce. Foreign-born workers make up an even larger proportion of animal agriculture industries like dairy and pork processing, from 60 up to 90 percent in some states, many of them undocumented. Deporting these workers would decimate the food industry and Big Ag knows it. So why aren’t they ringing the alarm bell? Senior Staff Attorney Amal Bouhabib explains on FarmSTAND's blog: https://lnkd.in/eWbyMupz
