The American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons reposted this
This week, we were fortunate to have Dr. Sonia Ramamoorthy join us as an invited speaker. She delivered two impactful talks that provided both clinical and career-focused insights and met with our faculty Erik Noren, MD; Sean Flynn, MD; Robert Kucejko, MD; Miquell Miller ,MD as well as colorectal focused residents Abd-Elrahman Hassan ; Alexis Woods; Yasamin taghikhan; Rachel Ekaireb and our med students Araiye Medlock; Rachel Chan; Rebeka Dejenie; Samantha Pena. In her talk on early-onset colorectal cancer, Dr. Ramamoorthy highlighted the alarming rise in cases and emphasized the importance of addressing lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and obesity as part of prevention and treatment strategies. She also stressed the need for multidisciplinary care and early screening to improve outcomes for younger patients. Following this, Dr. Ramamoorthy spoke directly to our surgical residents sharing practical advice on leadership and early career development. She underscored the importance of being intentional with learning—seizing opportunities to build technical skills, seeking mentorship, and staying updated on advances in the field. She encouraged residents to think strategically about their career trajectory while maintaining a strong commitment to patient care and teamwork. Dr. Ramamoorthy’s insights were a valuable reminder of the evolving challenges in healthcare and the importance of continuous growth as a clinician. We deeply appreciate her time and expertise.
