Fifth Window

"When was the last time you paused?" That’s what my therapist asked me yesterday - and I didn’t have an answer. That was the answer. It’s so easy to get caught up in planning, doing, and achieving. But there’s equal value in simply being - in pausing long enough to fully experience the present moment. When was the last time you allowed yourself to sit still and truly take in what’s right in front of you? This Thanksgiving, I’m stepping back. No travel, no packed schedule - just being fully present. Whether your day is quiet or busy, I invite you to spend even a few minutes to let go of what’s next, and simply appreciate the beauty of now. And as I reflect on gratitude, I want to thank you. Sharing my journey here and connecting with this community means so much to me. Whether it’s milestones, thoughts, or just moments of reflection, your engagement makes it all the more meaningful. To everyone who has supported me this past year—you’re part of something bigger than words can express, and I’m truly grateful. Wishing you a peaceful, present, and joyful Thanksgiving. As Thanksgiving approaches, I find myself reflecting on my 30-year journey in nursing—a career that has shaped me in ways I never could have imagined. From the bedside to the classroom, the boardroom, and beyond, I’ve experienced the highs of triumph and the lows of heartbreak. Every patient I’ve cared for, every student I’ve taught, every colleague I’ve partnered with, and every leader or entrepreneur who challenged me to think differently has left an indelible mark on my career and my heart. I am deeply grateful for: ❤️ The patients who taught me resilience, compassion, and the power of human connection. ❤️ The colleagues and leaders who pushed me to grow, sometimes in ways I didn’t expect, but always for the better. ❤️ The students who remind me why I chose this profession and inspire me to keep learning and innovating. ❤️ The nurses and companies in the NurseApproved cohort who are redefining what it means to lead with purpose and innovation. ❤️ The moments of doubt, failure, and perseverance that strengthened my resolve and deepened my empathy. ❤️ The privilege of being part of a profession that truly changes lives—not just others', but also my own. To all who have walked this path with me, whether for a moment or a lifetime: thank you. You’ve been my teachers, supporters, challengers, and motivators. As I look ahead, I remain committed to honoring this incredible profession and the people it serves. Nursing has been my calling, my challenge, and my greatest gift.
