Wednesday at U.S. Naval Institute’s Defense Forum 2024 in Washington D.C., Fincantieri Marinette Marine CEO Mark Vandroff and representatives from two other major shipbuilders participated in a moderated discussion on the state of American shipbuilding. The event was attended by more than a hundred defense and military officials, elected leaders, industry partners, and interested navalists. Vandroff praised the dedication and quality of FMM's workforce, but stressed that more people are needed to build the Navy's Constellation-class Frigates. Manpower challenges were discussed by all three shipbuilders, and Vandroff touched on several ways FMM is encouraging employees to remain with the company, like $10,000 retention bonuses, providing innovative technologies, like welding robots and weight-bearing exoskeletons to enhance employee well-being while at work, and the most recent initiative of paying for child or dependent care for its employees. This new initiative originated from employee feedback, and the company will give $5,000 tax-free for employees to use for childcare expenses. The Constellation-class Frigate program remains the top priority for FMG. Meaningful collaboration between industry and the government is crucial to bringing a well-nourished workforce on board and getting the job done right. #Fincantieri #FincantieriMarineGroup #FutureOnBoard #WisconsinShipbuilding

Bringing future talent on board starts well before a Fincantieri Marine Group employee ever steps foot in our yards or offices. It begins in the classroom and in workspaces, where rising stars learn, grow, and start to master their skills while developing innovative ideas. For this reason, Fincantieri proudly sponsors the Human Powered Submarine (HPS) project at Virginia Tech. This unique initiative consists of undergraduate engineering students working together to build a human-piloted and pedaled submarine. The project begins with a year dedicated to design, during which the primary plans and architectural blueprints are crafted. This is followed by a build year, where the designs come to life. The team then undergoes scuba certification to finalize and validate the designs through pool and quarry testing. And finally, the completed submarine is put to the test in the international submarine races. HPS Vice President, Nicole Quiram, comments, “Fincantieri Marine Group's support of our team allows us to learn skills that would otherwise not be possible. Their confidence in our abilities as budding engineers is encouraging. We are thankful that they are willing to invest in our education and hope to use what we have learned in the workforce.” Quiram summarizes our mission perfectly. With confidence and education, we are poised to bring a promising future on board. 🌟 #Fincantieri #FincantieriMarineGroup #Partnership #Engineering #FutureOnBoard
