Happy New Year! 2024 was the year of laying a strong foundation. We grew from 7 to 70, built and launched our first product, FlexAI Cloud Services (docs.flex.ai), in private beta, and onboarded a world-class leadership team to start realizing our vision, driving our roadmap, and moving our business forward. 2025 is the year of growth for FlexAI. FlexAI is committed to fostering innovation and standardization in the industry to promote the sustainable adoption of machine learning tools. As a proud member of MLCommons, we are excited to contribute to the collaborative development of the #MLPerf Power benchmark. This initiative aims to drive sustainable AI by providing a standardized framework for measuring and comparing the energy efficiency of machine learning systems across various hardware platforms. The interactions between system components are becoming increasingly complex as large-scale clusters are deployed daily. This emphasizes the importance of measuring and optimizing energy efficiency at the system level. Our focus is on capturing the dynamic relationships among all components and accurately reflecting the true energy costs associated with running machine learning workloads in real-world scenarios. The arXiv paper presents the first comprehensive large-scale study of ML system energy efficiency, examining longitudinal trends across multiple generations of MLPerf and offering actionable insights into energy optimization techniques. These findings underscore the critical importance of energy efficiency as a key metric in ML system design and lay the foundation for creating more sustainable machine learning systems.
