Nollaig na mBan (Women's Christmas or Little Christmas) Irish folk traditions tied to January 6th, the final day of Christmas, offer a special occasion to honor women. In this spirit, the FLIARA Project celebrates all the incredible women involved in agriculture, rural businesses, community work, and rural life. Today, we pay tribute to their unwavering commitment to farming, community living, and the development of rural areas. I deeply commend their outstanding contributions, which I have seen firsthand through the FLIARA Project, my personal research, and my experiences within rural communities. 🌾 Driving Diversity in Agriculture! On December 12, 2024, Brussels became the epicentre of a transformative dialogue during the Exchange of Views on Gender Equality and Diversity: Challenges for Farming and Food. Part of the European Parliament’s Gender Equality Week, this event brought together experts, policymakers, and inspiring leaders to tackle systemic barriers faced by women in agriculture. Highlights included: 🔹 FLIARA’s Maura Farrell showcasing the critical role of women in driving sustainability across farming and rural areas. 🔹 Faustine Bas-Defossez (European Environmental Bureau) calling for gender-transformative policies to close the gaps in leadership and resources. 🔹 Michaela Höfel (DBV, COPA COGECA) emphasising women as “innovators and business leaders” while advocating for better childcare and access to funding. 🔹 Insights from MEPs Maria Walsh, Christine Singer, and Dario Nardella, Elsi Katainen, Luke Ming Flanagan, Cristina Maestre, Daniel Buda, Barry Cowen MEP, Luis Vicentiu Lazarus, Paulo do Nascimento Cabral, driving home the need for inclusive policies and tailored support.
