We kicked off 2025 with our team offsite in Long Beach! In addition to visiting customers and discussing our plans for Flipturn's biggest year yet, we fit in lots of fun activities: playing pickleball, beautiful hikes, going out to dinner together, and even taking a tour of the Queen Mary's engine room. As a hybrid in-office/remote company, getting everyone together at least quarterly – both for work and fun – has been key to building a close team!

🚚⚡ Rivian is opening up commercial EV sales to fleets of all sizes! After years of developing electric delivery vans with Amazon, Rivian is now selling its Delivery 500 and 700 models to fleets of all sizes. With 9,500 lbs GVWR, a 160-mile range, and Rivian’s in-house fleet software, these vans are built for efficiency, safety, and cost savings. AT&T has already signed on, and with General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Stellantis ramping up their own commercial EV offerings, competition in this space is intensifying. Rivian’s long-standing partnership with Amazon may give it a critical edge as fleet electrification accelerates. Pet Valu Adds Electric Trucks to Its Fleet 🚛🔋 PetValu has taken a major step in modernizing its logistics with the addition of two Volvo Group VNR Electric semi trucks. These Class 8 Volvo Trucks will replace over 25,000 liters of diesel annually and cut 62 tons of CO2 emissions, reinforcing Pet Valu’s commitment to a cleaner supply chain. 🔹 Battery Power – Each truck is equipped with a 565 kWh battery, delivering a 275-mile range on a single charge. 🔹 Efficient Charging – The trucks will charge overnight at Pet Valu’s Surrey distribution center, maximizing uptime. 🔹 Government Support – Funding assistance from Volvo Trucks and Canadian government incentive programs helped facilitate this investment. Pet Valu’s move highlights a growing trend in logistics, where electric trucks are becoming a strategic business decision, not just an environmental commitment. Electric Trucks Are Reshaping Logistics 🚚⚡ The adoption of electric trucks is gaining momentum in fleet operations, driven by: 🔹 Lower costs – Charging can be 60% cheaper than diesel, and government incentives offer up to $75,000 per vehicle in some regions. Over a truck’s lifetime, total ownership costs can be 20% lower than traditional diesel models. 🔹 Advanced safety – Features like collision warnings, lane-keeping assist, and automated braking help reduce accidents. Some models also include 360-degree camera systems and blind-spot detection, improving visibility for drivers. 🔹 Operational efficiency – Automatic diagnostics alert fleet managers to maintenance issues before they become costly breakdowns, reducing unexpected downtime and repair costs. Fleet telematics systems optimize routes based on real-time battery health and charging station availability. 🔹 Better range – New battery technology allows some electric trucks to travel up to 500 miles on a single charge, while fast-charging stations can recharge to 80% in under an hour. With expanding charging infrastructure, long-haul routes are becoming increasingly feasible. Major players like Amazon and UPS are already expanding their electric fleets, and battery advancements are making long-haul routes more viable.
