David Rodriguez may be the new economic development director for the City of Kissimmee, but he is not new to the region. He has previously held the top economic development spots for both the City of St. Cloud and, most recently, Osceola County government. “Of course, I want to diversify the economy for the city, focus on attracting businesses, and support our current businesses,” said Rodriguez. As the director, Rodriguez leads the city’s Economic Development Department, and his team also administers the city’s two Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) areas, including the Downtown Kissimmee CRA and the Vine Street CRA. Rodriguez said he feels one of the keys to attracting the right kind of business activity is workforce development, in order to ensure businesses have a ready source of trained potential employees so a business can become operational as quickly as possible. “I want to attract additional educational institutions, and other sources of career training into the city,” said Rodriguez. #RedevelopmentWorks #Redevelopment #FloridaRedevelopment #MyFRA #FLRedevelopment #KissimmeeCRA #Kissimmee

This year, Destin is observing 40 years of incorporation, and the older Destin gets, the more things are happening. Earlier this year, The Destin Log started looking back at the past 40 years, taking it in bites, one decade at a time. Sandy Trammell, who was recently elected to office, reflects on the city’s history, such as being able to secure Norriego Point. She said there was a question as to who owned it — the state, county, or the city. “We were able to get the paperwork done to own it as city property,” she said. During that time, the council also was able to put the cross-town connector from Benning to Beach Drive on the TPO list for future building. The boardwalk along Destin harbor in 2012. Another thing that Trammell is proud of is the building of the harbor boardwalk. “We had enough money in the harbor CRA that we were able to build the boardwalk that currently exists,” she said. #RedevelopmentWorks #Redevelopment #FloridaRedevelopment #MyFRA #FLRedevelopment #Destin

While the historic downtown Sebring buildings provide a quaint experience and a hometown view from Circle Park, it is not a “walk in the park” to restore and renovate these structures. At the Community Redevelopment Agency Board’s Sept. 9 meeting, performance measures and penalties for missed deadlines were discussed as deadlines have been extended over the past two years for businesses going into CRA-owned properties. Home builder Mark Gose, who is a partner in the Roanoke Hotel and the Irish pub at 209 Circle Park Drive, spoke to the CRA Board recently about the many hurdles in restoring a historic building. #RedevelopmentWorks #Redevelopment #FloridaRedevelopment #MyFRA #FLRedevelopment #sebring #sebringCRA

A 13-story building featuring 60 apartments and 60 short-term rentals is slated for the 10,000-square-foot property at 1663 1st Avenue South in downtown St. Pete’s Grand Central District. The St. Petersburg City Council, meeting as the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), unanimously approved the plans on Thursday, finding it consistent with the Intown West Redevelopment Plan (IWRP). The plan will go before the Development Review Commission on December 4th. The property is currently developed with a commercial building that was previously the home of Sunshine Kitty Catfe, Tampa Bay’s first cat café which debuted in 2019, and the Dolman Law Group, which has an office in Clearwater. #RedevelopmentWorks #Redevelopment #FloridaRedevelopment #MyFRA #FLRedevelopment #StPeteCRA
