Nadia came to Flourish last week and furnished her home just in time for Thanksgiving! At Flourish, Nadia chose lots of great furniture: a big queen bed, a dining room set, a desk, and a loveseat. But it was the little things that really felt like home. Nadia found a big stock pot to make her favorite African dish. She loves the elephant finials on her lampshades and the needlepoint-patterned seat covers on her dining room chairs. A Christmas basket will warm her living room with festive decorations. With a fully furnished home, Nadia welcomed her son home from medical school for the Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you, Nadia, for bringing joy to our space and allowing us to help furnish yours! A special shoutout to Nadia’s brother, Emanuel, who helped move all her new items in. Tinker, our favorite canine volunteer, was also a big highlight – bringing out a huge smile while Nadia shopped. What's our secret ingredient? The heart of the volunteer! Behind each home furnished, volunteers serve 25 hours behind the scenes. This year, 995 individuals have served 27,734 hours to furnish 1,090 homes !!! While the big numbers are impressive, it’s the little details and individual care that each volunteer brings that really makes the difference. Whether they’re woodworking, testing electronics, moving furniture, or helping our guests shop, Flourish volunteers bring a tremendous amount of love and compassion to every action. There's a story behind every piece of furniture donated to Flourish. Through our home pick-up program and dock drop-off hours, we receive donations from families like Ryan, who wanted to see his dad’s furniture go to good use when he moved into a retirement home. Others, like Cecilia, donate to Flourish to make an impact for 80+ nonprofits that we partner with. Businesses like Crowley Furniture & Mattress, a family-owned furniture retailer, donated 17 tons of furniture to empower neighbors. Blessings Abound Thrift Store, a socially and environmentally driven thrift store, donated 37 tons of furniture this year to make an impact. Generosity is the fuel that fills more than a hundred homes with beautiful, high-quality furniture every month. Remi visited Flourish last week, and we had an amazing time choosing furnishings for her home. With several family members in her household, she had a lot of items to choose to suit everyone’s needs and preferences. With a gracious heart, Remi found items to make her living space comfortable, functional, and personal for everyone in her family. Floral pink decorations now outfit her space, in line with her bright style and personality. A complete set of upholstered furniture, tables, cookware, dishes and more will create many happy memories to come! Thank you Remi, for all you do to support others! #Happy Giving Tuesday! Today, we're sharing stories from our warehouse to celebrate the global day of generosity. We have 120 homes to furnish before the end of the year! It will take 5,400 donated items, 3,000 volunteer hours, and $60,000 in operating expenses. So far, we've raised $34,081 to cover our December operations entirely from individual donations.
